The Season Four finale of The Flash left us open to some possiblities moving forward. First we saw….oh yeah spoilers ahead, we saw the team defeat The Thinker and in the process getting Ralph Dibny back as part of the team. We also got the official confirmation that the mystery woman who turned out to be a speedster is actually Nora Allen, the daughter of Barry and Iris from the future.
Now thanks to a casting breakdown from ThatHashtagShow.com we may have an idea as to who will be the main foe for Team Flash as they head into their fifth season.
The show is casting for a character named Desmond Paull, which is more than likely a code name but check out the breakdown
“An open ethnicity role for a man in his 40s. “Desmond” is a meta-human who, after a mysterious interaction with dark matter, was given not only immortality but also the gift to disable other meta-human powers. He blames metas for everything that has gone wrong in his life and because of that, his mission is to wipe Central City free of them in order to silence his own anguish. Whoever gets cast as “Desmond”, he would be a one year fractional series regular.”
Now of course Desmond Paullis not the characters name. It seems as if the Flash’s foe will be David Hersch a.k.a. Cicada! Cicada was created by Geoff Johns, he first appeared in Flash #170 (volume 2) in March 2001, as he got his powers when being struck by a bolt of lightning while trying to end his own life. So we wont see him develop his abilities from a particle accelerator explosions as most of the meta-humans in Central City have. This is after having murdered his own wife. Cicada strongly believed that he and the scarlet speedster were somehow connected, due to the fact that they gained powers by similar events.
In the comics Hersch also forms the Cicada cult. The cult’s followers carried out the mission to kill anyone that The Flash had saved. To carry this mission out they would use daggers that would be shaped like lightning bolts to murder these people. Its kind of necessary to point out as well that Cicada is one of Wally West’s villains when he was carrying the mantle of the Flash. But the story line can work just as well with this version of the Flash, Barry Allen
The dampening of other meta-humans’ abilities definitely seems to be a creative choice for the character as it does not directly mention the usage of the lightning bolts but that may change. Also having someone who wants to punish the meta-humans in Central City, is a great way to set up the big bad being Cicada….if it is indeed him.
Now that we have a clue as to who MIGHT be the main bad guy, let us know if you have any suggestions as to who you would like in the role.
