Winston Duke who portrayed the T’Challa foe than ally M’Baku in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War will be part of a new fight as he is set to take on the role of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in the upcoming film Backyard Legend.
The screenplay is being written by Andy Weiss. Weiss also wrote the screenplay for the movie White Boy Rick. The film is set to be based on the Bahamian-born backyard brawler who rose from homelessness to mixed martial arts fame when his brutal backyard fights drew a huge YouTube audience. Kimbo passed away in June 2016 at 42 from heart failure and a liver mass.
Steve Lee Jones whose Bee Holder Productions is producing the movie along with Michael J. Weiss’ Webros Entertainment said of the story; “It’s a rich and layered tale about this man’s incredible journey from a poor neighborhood in Miami to becoming a worldwide phenomenon. We are ecstatic that Winston has decided to take on this both physically and emotionally challenging role. We simply could not find a better Kimbo!”
Duke went on to say about playing Ferguson on film, “I’m looking forward to exploring Kimbo’s story and interrogating the expectations society places on men like him who are their own special breed of hero.”
