Gambit To Be A Rom-Com Now?

Gambit

First and foremost it needs to be addressed “THIS MOVIE IS STILL HAPPENING??” Well yes, the Gambit is clearly moving forward. During an interview with IGN, X-Men: Dark Phoenix producer and director, Simon Kinberg  he teased that the upcoming starring  Channing Tatum  will have an unusual genre for a comic book movie. Kinberg said that it will be the first solo comic book movie that will have a “romantic or sex comedy vibe.”

The way in which Kinberg breaks down some of the reasoning why the romantic comedy element may be the theme,  “When you look at Gambit, he’s a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy,”

Kinberg wanted to clarify his position on labeling the film a romantic comedy, “You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely. It’s not like they’re gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It’s just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are.”

Just in case you don’t remember Kinberg is the writer of the action rom-com Mr & Mrs. Smith. Is it a rom-com? But nonetheless there is an actual update on the production of the film and moving forward. He states, “Gambit has a great script and we’re looking to start that movie early next year. Multiple Man, that script’s being worked on right now. [As for X-Force,] we’re just waiting for Drew Goddard to be done with releasing his film that comes out in a few weeks, and then he’ll get started on that script to direct.”

Doesn’t Disney and their MCU now have control of what Marvel based properties are eventually going to be released post Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants? This gets a bit confusing because Gambit still has no set director and yet is current scheduled release date of June 7, 2019 if it starts production next year.

We will keep you posted with more information as it becomes available.
