The cast of the upcoming DC Universe show, Swamp Thing is constantly growing. Ian Ziering, best remembered as Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills 90210, is joining the cast of in the recurring guest star role of a Hollywood has-been Daniel Cassidy, a.k.a. the Blue Devil.

The official character description for Ziering’s character: “Stuntman turned movie star, Daniel Cassidy became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.”

In the comics, Cassidy while on set in his Blue Devil costume was approached and attacked by an actual demon who mistook him for a authentic demonic peer. The attack left Cassidy melded to the costume and gained a set of new and fascinating powers. With the series taking place in Louisiana, making usage of voodoo practices it would not be much of a stretch to see if dark magic plays a part in Cassidy’s transformation.

The voodoo element also can find itself tying into the shows logline as it follows Abby Arcane as “she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.”

As of now there is no specific release date for Swamp Thing but the show is expected to join the  recently launched DC Universe subscription streaming service sometime in 2019.
