When it was announced back in August 2017 that Disney would be ending its contract with Netflix, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before the next wave of Marvel Studios films would no longer be available on the streaming platform. During the Disney first quarters call it was revealed that Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Studios film to premiere exclusively on Disney+(plus) Disney’s streaming platform. It was not revealed when exactly Captain Marvel would premiere on the streaming service as it only hits theaters next month on March 8.
One thing Bob Iger did confirm is that the company has no plans to adjust the theatrical release window of its movies to get them on Disney+ any sooner. Even though Captain Marvel will mark the official end of new Marvel films on Netflix, it’s unclear yet what will happen to current MCU films on the service. Netflix currently offers subscribers access to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
