Marvel Studios first Asian led superhero film is moving along full steam ahead. The film now has a captain at the helm to steer the ship. Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12, Just Mercy) will helm the feature, which already had Wonder Woman 1984 writer Dave Callaham on board to pen the screenplay. Who will play the lead has yet to be cast.
Another amazing bit of news for this historical film is that Marvel is planning to assemble a largely and predominately Asian-American and Asian cast. Marvel is hoping Shang-Chi will follow a similar path by “introducing a new hero who blends Asian and Asian American themes, crafted by Asian and Asian American filmmakers.”
