This is a major announcement to comic book and comic book film enthusiasts who were waiting for updates to THE NEW GODS. It had been reported a while ago that accomplished director, Ava DuVernay was set to helm the film based on the DC Comics properties. Now it is being reported by The Wrap that DC comics writer Tom King will be co-writing the screenplay with DuVernay. DuVernay has confirmed via Twitter.

Coming off  his celebrated run writing DC’s “Mister Miracle,” King’s experience sure to come in handy on “The New Gods.” The character of Mister Miracle was also created by Kirby, Mister Miracle — AKA Scott Free — is the son of the Highfather but was raised on Apokolips under the terms of a treaty with New Genesis. Subjected to years of torture and abuse by Darkseid’s cruel henchwoman Granny Goodness, Scott eventually rebelled and with the help of Big Barda, an Apokolips soldier working to overthrow Darkseid, he escaped to Earth.  Knowing this means we can definitely expect the character to be held close to its comic counterpart.
