This is major news even while the world waits to see her remake of CANDYMAN it has just been announced that Nia DaCosta will take over the directing reigns for Marvel Studios CAPTAIN MARVEL 2.
DaCosta takes over for Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first pic to massive box office success which stars Brie Larson as the former Air Force Pilot turned Kree Warrior turned Avenger. Marvel is known for switching up its directors on its popular franchises like THOR, IRON MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA to give the next installment a fresh voice, and had been meeting with candidates for the past couple of months.
Megan McDonnell, a staff writer on the Marvel-based series WandaVision, penned the script for the Captain Marvel sequel. DaCosta is said to have had the edge over other directors that met with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige.
DaCosta has been on the rise since directing the critically acclaimed indie film LITTLE WOODS. The world is yet to see her retelling of CANDYMAN as its release was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
