GREEN LANTERN that is heading to HBO Max has found its writers and showrunner. The superhero show will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE and Marc Guggenheim, co-creator of ARROW and a writer on the 2011 GREEN LANTERN movie.
The drama will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man — and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro (who was played by Mark Strong in the GREEN LANTERN movie) and Kilowog (who was voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan in the GREEN LANTERN movie), and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.
Seth Grahame-Smith as at one point set to both write and direct THE FLASH film now being directed by Andy Muschietti. He will serve as writer and showrunner.
The project was first unveiled at the end of 2019 at the HBO Max WarnerMedia Day Presentation, where Greg Berlanti said that it would be “unlike anything seen on television”
Announcements as to whom will play the cast of intergalactic police officers have yet to be announced
Now that BATWOMAN has gone back into production in Vancouver for the CW, the biggest question was what would Javicia Leslie who will be portraying Ryan Wilder look like suited up as Gotham’s newest protector. Now we have our answer thanks to Leslie herself.
According to Javicia’s post she will have her own spin on the batsuit which is similar to the way the Kate Kane had the suit augmented for her in Season 1.
For those who need a reminder, the character of Ryan Wilder is a new character being created for the show’s sophomore season. Wilder is described as a wholly new version of Batwoman, with her own unique approach to keeping the people of Gotham safe. Described as likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. She’s the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.
After the post credit scene in SPIDER-MAN:FAR FROM HOME many wondered when would be the next time we would see Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we can assume that it will be in the upcoming BLACK WIDOW film we now know thanks to Variety that the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D will be appearing in a series currently in development at Disney Plus.
The project is in its early stages and details are being kept under wraps, but according to the trade Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) will write and executive produce and should the project be ordered to series, it would be Jackson’s first series regular television role.
He has recurred as Col. Fury on MARVEL’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D on ABC.
Jackson had initially signed a nine film deal to appear throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe which began with IRON MAN and as of most recently the aforementioned SPIDER-MAN:FAR FROM HOME, AVENGERS ENDGAME and CAPTAIN MARVEL (where we finally found out how Fury lost his eye and was required to wear the eyepatch).
James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD has yet to hit theaters but the buzz behind it and its stars are so big that spin-off TV series are already being ordered. This announcement is huge as it puts John Cena’s THE PEACEMAKER front and center with his own series coming to the HBO Max streaming service.
THE PEACEMAKER has been giving an eight-episode straight-to-series order for its first season with THE SUICIDE SQUAD director writing all episodes and directing a number of them. The show is said to explore the origins of the DC Comics character played by Cena.
Peacemaker is scheduled to begin production in early 2021, prior to Gunn beginning work on the next GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film. The show will be produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran with Cena serving as co-executive producer.
This is not the first spin-off series from an upcoming DC film set to hit HBO Max. It was recently announced that a GOTHAM PD series would be coming as a spin off of THE BATMAN from director Matt Reeves. Also former DC Universe originals such as DOOM PATROL, HARLEY QUINN, TITANSandYOUNG JUSTICE have moved to the streaming platform.
To give a bit of back story on the character of The Peacemaker, he was created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette and first appeared in the Fightin’ 5 series originally owned by Charlton Comics, is a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The first incarnation of Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat and son of a Nazi death camp commandant who founded the Pax Institute who fights dictators and warlords.
This news has been long overdue but finally has arrived and with it brings much joy. The HARLEY QUINN animated series has officially been renewed for a third season as it migrates from the DC Universe streaming app onto its new home over at HBO MAX. This announcement was made as Warner Media is switching DC universe to a new format.
HARLEY QUINN gripped audiences the world over with its take on the former girlfriend of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime who steps out on her own to establish her own criminal identity and in the process find out who she is along the way. The voice cast of the show which stars Kaley Cuoco who also serves as executive producer, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Tony Hale, Matt Oberg are a quintessential part of the shows success as well as its ultra violence and raw language.
HARLEY QUINN will be a Max Original going forward, and all three seasons of the show will be available. Other executive producers on the show include Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register.
Now we officially know who be playing the titular role in the upcoming Marvel Studios SHE-HULK series on Disney Plus. ORPHAN BLACK & PERRY MASON star Tatiana Maslany will get gamma-rayed out for the superhero series thanks to an exclusive by DEADLINE.
She-Hulk is Jennifer Walters, an attorney and cousin of Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk. An emergency blood transfusion from her cousin gave Walters her powers, but unlike Banner/Hulk, She-Hulk was able to keep her intelligence and personality when she Hulked out.
Maslany also becomes the latest female talent to lead a Marvel movie following in the footsteps of Brie Larson in CAPTAIN MARVEL and Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming BLACK WIDOW movie. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has made it his mission to diversify the MCU and this latest addition to the universe does just that.
SHE-HULK which is coming to the Disney plus streaming platform has its lead writer in RICK AND MORTY scribe, Jessica Gao and now it has a director of multiple episodes who will also serve as executive producer in Kat Coiro.
Coiro’s next film is MARRY ME which hits theaters Valentine’s day weekend of 2021 The movie stars Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Sarah Silverman as well as music sensation Maluma in his first ever on screen role.
She-Hulk’s alter-ego if you will is Jennifer Walters, an attorney and cousin of Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk. An emergency blood transfusion from her cousin gave Walters her powers but unlike Banner/Hulk, She-Hulk was able to keep her intelligence and personality when she Hulked out. Disney plus has yet to cast anyone to play the lead character. They have noted that they want an “Allison Brie like character” but have not cast Allison Brie….as of yet.
Along with having her new film set to arrive next year, Coiro is no stranger to directing television. She has also directed numerous television shows including: Netflix’s DEAD TO ME, Showtime’s SHAMELESS and FX’s: IT’s ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA and more.
The cast around the misfits known as DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is steadily growing as it has now added former CHICAGO P.D. star, Lisseth Chavez as Esperanze “Spooner” Cruz heading into the show’s sixth season.
Cruz who is described as tough and self-sufficient,lives off the grid, devising ingenious tech for the detection of — and defense against — space aliens. And while some might call her paranoid, she calls it being prepared. A survivor of a childhood alien encounter, Spooner now believes she has the ability to communicate telepathically with aliens — making her the perfect recruit for Waverider captains Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) and the Legends who, in season six, will be hunting down extraterrestrials who have been displaced throughout history. If you recall in the season finale Sara is abducted by aliens.
Executive producer Grainne Godfrey goes on to describe Chavez’ Cruz by saying that “She is a young Latinx woman from Texas, who was kidnapped by aliens and has a third for vengeance. She’s not going to be the loveable losers that we normally have, she’s going to be pretty tough and gives it to the other Legends and they’re going to have to react to her and I think it’s going to throw them off their feet a little bit.”
The LEGENDS will return for a sixth season in 2021.
DC’s group of doomed souls have not gone on their final wild adventure as of yet. DOOM PATROL has been renewed for a third season at HBO MAX.
“On behalf of the wonderful cast, writers and crew, we are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to return to Doom Manor. And we are especially thankful for our partners at Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, DC Universe and, of course, HBO Max,” said executive producer Jeremy Carver.
The superhero series debuted on the DC Universe streaming platform for its inaugural season. Its sophomore season streamed on both the DC Universe and HBO MAX. Now it seems as if the superhero show is going to fully be an HBO MAX series going forward.
“DOOM PATROL came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most watched Max Originals on the platform,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max. “The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike.”
DOOM PATROL stars Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor aka Negative Man, Diane Guerrero as Jane aka Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman and Joivan Wade as Victor Stone aka Cyborg.
