The king of the seven seas will be returning to the big screen in a sequel to his solo box office SMASHER.  Warner Bros has officially set December 16, 2022 as the release date for the Aquaman sequel.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will return to write the follow-up sequel and James Wan and Peter Safran will produce. It is not known yet if James Wan will return to also direct the sequel.  The sequel was more than obvious after Aquaman over-performed and blew away expectations at the box office. As Aquaman is currently the 20th-highest worldwide grossing film of all-time.

A spinoff to Aquaman, a horror movie that will be called “The Trench” was announced three weeks ago where James Wan and Peter Sarfan will also produce that. Currently a cast and a director are not attached yet to the project.

It is pretty much inevitable that the billion dollar blockbuster smash Aquaman will get a sequel film. Though nothing is official as of yet, the film  its star Jason Momoa or its director James Wan returning we will still be treated to action involving one of the kingdoms of Atlantis.

Warner Bros is bringing one new screenwriters Aidan Fitzgerald and Noah Gardner to pen a script that is horror based and centered around the terrifying creatures that Arthur Curry (Aquaman) and Mera known as the trench. Aquaman director James Wan and Peter Safran are set to produce the project which will be titled The Trench. The film is said to have much more modest budget that the usual tentpole films.

Full details on the project and being kept at the bottom of the sea  but what is known of now is that the film will be set in the kingdom of the Trench and the main cast of Aquaman will not be part of the film.

The wait is finally over.  During the Warner Bros panel at Hall H during San Diego Comic Con we were treated to the first trailer from the James Wan directed, AQUAMAN.

We witness the origin of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) in how his father Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison) a lighthouse keeper met Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and the moment his special abilities became active.

Aquaman is initially running from his destiny as he talks to Queen Mera (Amber Heard) as she informs him of his brother, King Orm’s (Patrick Wilson) plan to wage war on the surface world.

The beauty of life underwater is incredibly captured in this trailer as director James Wan holds up to his promise of “fixing the way the Atlanteans speak under water”. Give this trailer a look for yourself and be prepared to be blown away

“Fresh Off The Boat” star Joins The Cast of Aquaman

That star being Randall Park. Park who is also in Ant-man and the Wasp was confirmed to be part of the cast by the director himself James Wan on Twitter.

Now in the comics Dr. Shin is a character Who Tom Curry came to, to help Arthur Curry (Aquaman) learn about his abilities. Then afterwards he became obsessed with discovering the city of Atlantis.

Now pickups, as Wan mentioned aren’t necessarily full on reshoots, they are to many times get extra coverage and in this case add a new character. So my fingers are crossed this adds on to make this film a success.

Aquaman is set to hit theaters just in time for Christmas this year on December 21st.

Early AQUAMAN Test Screenings Are Extremely Positive

aquaman.jpg

The next upcoming film within the DCEU is the Jason Momoa led AQUAMAN has begun its initial test screenings. Now in some instances those can lead to heavy reshoots and restructuring of a film. But in this case the feedback has turned out to be surprisingly positively.

Now according to The Tracking Board editor, Jeff Sneider and The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez  it seems as if there has been a lot of good things about the DC Comics adaptation according to  early test screenings. “I heard it was great, man,” Gonzalez claims, he points to this potentially being a much needed turning point for DC, “Someone else told me it was a palette cleanser for them, for DC, what’s happened with the Zack Snyder films. So high hopes for that one and Shazam.”
“I heard that it plays like an Indiana Jones movie and that the action puts Wonder Woman and Justice League to shame. That is what I heard,” Sneider says as he goes into praising James Wan and pointing out that the underwater scenes could be why people seem to love the unique action scenes.

Now truth be told these are only a few and don’t represent everyone. HOWEVER, there are others that have been rather positive as well. But also never let us forget that at he Justice League premiere, AQUAMAN director James Wan tweeted out that he would not be using the same type of method to show speaking underwater in his film and that could be one of the most positive upswings.

Let us know what you think. Are you happy to hear about the early positive test screenings.

There will NOT be Aqua-air bubbles in AQUAMAN

justice-league-aquaman-jason-momoa-hd-poster

Well this is what we’re being told by Aquaman director James Wan.

So Justice League has hit the theaters and there are mixed reviews all across the board. Matter of fact you can check out ours HERE.   But one thing that seems to be unanimously discussed is the awkward way in which the Atlanteans speak under water.

If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, (spoiler alert)  After Steppenwolf invades Atlantis to retrieve the mother box that is there, he is fended off by Aquaman, Queen Mera and other members of the Atlantean guard. Then here’s where the weirdness happens. Queen Mera proceeds to make a giant air bubble so that her and Aquaman can have a conversation.

This of course got fans worried that we would see the same thing in the film that based primarily underwater.  Well director  James Wan took to Twitter to put those worries to esse a bit.

Does this help to ease some fears? And are you still excited for the solo Aquaman film?

DC’s Titans has its Hawk and Dove

The upcoming Greg Berlanti series, Titans, is adding more cast members to its lineup. Brenton Thwaites (Gods Of Egypt) was recently cast as Dick Grayson, the original Robin, and he’ll be joined by 24: Legacy’s Anna Diop as Starfire and Home And Away’s Teagan Croft as Raven. The latest news from Deadline says Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly have been cast as Hawk and Dove.

Minka Kelly is likely best known from Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. You might remember Ritchson from the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, but he was also Aquaman on Smallville. Hawk and Dove were originally brothers in the comics, but after Dove’s death, he was replaced by Dawn Granger, which sets up what the new series is going for here. The way these characters got their powers have always been a little sketchy, but I’m sure the series or the rumored potential spin-off will give us more information.

Cyborg Confirmed to be Third Motherbox in Justice League film

We are getting more and more information about the upcoming Justice League movie and one of its main characters.

Via movieweb.com

Director Zack Snyder recently confirmed that the third Mother Box will be featured in Justice League, and that it will be none other than Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg. There have been plenty of rumors swirling round the Mother Boxes and how they fit into the story, especially after the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice deleted scene that featured Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) using Kryptonian technology to create a vision of the villain Steppenwolf holding three Mother Boxes. Director Zack Snyder also offered more details about bringing this team together in Justice League.

Zack Snyder confirmed that Cyborg is the third mother box in the print issue of Total Film, but this isn’t the first time he’s mentioned that particular detail. The filmmaker revealed in a March interview that the Cyborg scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Victor Stone’s father Silas (Joe Morton) presents his son with a strange box that turns him into Cyborg, is the “first glimpse of the Mother Box there,” adding that Ray Fisher’s character, “plays such a strong part coming up.”

Another rumor from May revealed that Justice League will open with a flashback scene from 30,000 years ago, featuring Darkseid’s first defeat when the humans, Atlanteans and the Amazons all came together to beat him. These three civilizations are believed to have divided up an artifact into three parts, the Mother Boxes, which Steppenwolf is presumably coming for in Justice League. It has also been rumored that Steppenwolf will be the main Justice League villain, with Darkseid appearing at the end of the movie, leading into the currently untitled Justice League 2 sequel. While Zack Snyder wouldn’t speak more about the Mother Boxes, he did discuss how bringing this team of DC heroes together was one of the most rewarding aspects of the film.

“One of the more rewarding aspects of creating Justice League was having fun exploring the dynamic between this diverse group of characters, inherently larger-than-life characters with disparate backgrounds, ethics and unique perspectives all trying to come together and work as a team. It not only offers an opportunity for great drama and complex relationships, but it also often results in great fun. It’s an exciting concept to explore and it only gets better when you add the component of our incredibly talented cast, their chemistry really adds to that dynamic.”

It’s possible that one of the other Mother Boxes will be revealed in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, which hits theaters June 2, just five months before Justice League arrives November 17. It’s also possible that the remaining Mother Box will be featured in the stand alone Aquaman movie, which debuts October 5, 2018, before the Justice League sequel will hit theaters on June 14, 2019. Hopefully we’ll find out more about these Mother Boxes as we get ready for Wonder Woman and Justice League to hit theaters this year.
