This past weekend Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment made a statement at San Diego Comic Con. With showing trailers for SHAZAM!, Aquaman and footage for Wonder Woman 84, many were hoping to get more info on many of the other announced films. Those being Birds of Prey, Gotham City Sirens, Batgirl and even the still untitled Flash movie.
Another film that is still set to happen but there has been no new information on is the Matt Reeves directed The Batman. Aside from the question of would Ben Affleck once again don the cape and cowl and if not who would be his replacement but also what would the premise of the film be. Would it be set after Justice League, would it be a prequel?
Now according to Revenge of the Fans it is rumored that Reeves will draw inspiration from DC’s Batman: Year One, the 1987 storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli that recounted the Dark Knight’s first year as a vigilante. This can fully support earlier theories that the movie would focus on a significantly younger than the graying crime-fighter portrayed by Ben Affleck in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Which would explain why Jake Gyllenhaal was not announced as the hero of Gotham,
However, the rumor also suggests that Reeves & Co. aren’t only looking younger Bruce Wayne but also for someone to play Harvey Dent. And that someone may potentially be Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Huston was originally a contender to pick up the cape and cowl around the same time as Gyllenhaal, but has also dropped out of the running.
