Ben Affleck Will Become The Dark Knight For THE FLASH.

While is was thought that the upcoming Synder Cut of Justice League would be the last time that we would see Ben Affleck don the cape and cowl as the Dark Knight. But now thanks to an exclusive from Vanity Fair we have found out that that in fact will not be the case as he will reprise his role in the upcoming THE FLASH film.

Affleck got the script at the end of last week and agreed this week to join the project. The Flash movie, which is set to release in summer 2022, will feature the fastest man alive Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, breaking into various parallel dimensions, where he’ll encounter slightly different versions of DC’s classic heroes. It’s an adaptation of DC’s 2011 Flashpoint series of comic book crossovers, directed by Andy Muschietti.

His (Affleck) Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable,” Muschietti said in an interview. “He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.

He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director added. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.

I’m glad to be collaborating with someone who has been on both sides of the camera, too,” Muschietti said. “He understands.”

Affleck won’t be the only Batman making a comeback, Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film is also set to appear in what Muschietti said was a “substantial” part.

There’s another reason The Flash needed the character affectionately known as Batfleck. In DC’s movie universe, Affleck’s gray-templed Bruce Wayne is the one Ezra’s Flash would consider “the original Batman,” the one he has already fought alongside in the previous Zack Snyder films.

Muschietti  goes on further to say that it wouldn’t work as well for Barry to venture into the company of other Batmen without having Affleck as the starting point. “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure,” the director said. “There’s a familiarity there.”

The use of the multiverse has helped DC both differentiate itself and revisit the same characters without being accused of rebooting or erasing recent favorites. DC TV shows such as ARROW, BATWOMAN, BLACK LIGHTNINGDC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and SUPERGIRL have done crossover events, and a few months ago the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS storyline laid the groundwork for the multiverse concept, with Miller’s movie Flash making an appearance in that story by coming face-to-face with the TV Flash played by Grant Gustin.

This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid,” Muschietti said. “It’s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you’ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t still intense disagreements in the fandom, and the return of Batfleck is sure to launch countless takes.

Barbara Muschietti, the producer of The Flash (and sister and longtime collaborator of the director), told Vanity Fair she had worried this might make him reluctant to return at all.

There have been some all sorts of stories and things he said himself about having a very hard time playing Batman, and it had been difficult for him,” she said. “I think it was more about a difficult time in his life. When we approached him, he’s now in a very different time in his life. He was very open to it, which was a bit of a surprise to us. It was a question mark. We are all human and go through great times in our lives and terrible times in our lives,” she added. “Right now he’s in a place where he can actually enjoy being Batman.” Plus, he doesn’t have to carry the entire movie. “It’s a pivotal role, but at the same time it’s a fun part,” she said.

Just in case you are not really getting the full feel here are those same pics for you individually.

Do you remember in The Dark Knight when Batman subdued to individuals posing to be him and one of the men said “What’s the difference between you and me?” Batmans reply was “I’m not wearing hockey pants!” This definitely looks like those hockey pants suits.

These pics and the suit have not been 100% confirmed however from the looks of everything it just may be official.

Batfleck’s Future is Extremely Uncertain

Of course the rumor mill has been circling now for some time that Ben Affleck may no longer put on the Cape & cowl after the now directed Matt Reeves “The Batman” solo film. Now thanks to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, it’s beginning to become a wonder if Affleck will even make it that far in the franchise.

Via The Hollywood Reporter

Ben Affleck is heading to Comic-Con this weekend to promote Warner Bros.’ upcoming Justice Leaguemovie, set for a Nov. 17 release. But how many more times is he likely to put on the Batsuit? Probably not many, if ever again.

Yes, Warners’ film studio chief Toby Emmerich tells The Hollywood Reporter, “Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.” And Matt Reeves, who will direct the studio’s still-undated (and unwritten) The Batman, has said that he means to keep Affleck in the role. But a source with knowledge of the situation says that the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck’s Batman — gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films.

Exactly when and how that might happen has yet to be determined, but it would be wise to bet against Affleck starring in The Batman. He has already stepped away from directing the film and Reeves is dropping the script that Affleck wrote with D.C. Entertainment’s Geoff Johns.

Reeves also has acknowledged that he has a Batman trilogy rolling around in his head, and given his success making two-thirds of a trilogy out of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, it seems fair to anticipate that Warners will want him to realize his vision.

In addition, Affleck will turn 45 in August, so he would be pushing 50 before The Batman arrives in theaters. If Reeves makes a trilogy, Affleck would be in his mid-50s at best by the time that’s done. Maybe Tom Cruise could pull that off, but Affleck’s body hasn’t exactly been a temple.

And while male stars have been able to stretch their action-film relevance further in an age when there are fewer bankable young stars (Robert Downey Jr. is 52 and going strong as Iron Man), studios favor the fresh-faced — look what happened with Spider-Man, successfully rebooted with 21-year-old Tom Holland. (Affleck also just dropped out of the Netflix project Triple Frontier, and it’s not clear what his next movie will be. His reps declined to comment.)

Warners could hypothetically create dual Batmen, keeping Affleck in the role for a planned Justice Leaguefollow-up, while letting Reeves cast his movie with a different star. But that hardly seems likely. The first Justice League already is at an inflection point: Director Zack Snyder has stepped away in mid-production and his successor, Joss Whedon, is said to be doing extensive reshoots. (Note that Justice League member Superman is played by Henry Cavill, 34, The Flash is Ezra Miller, 24, Aquaman is Jason Momoa, 37, and Wonder Woman is 32-year-old Gal Gadot.) And a second Justice League movie would be years down the road. THR reported Thursday that Shazam!, with a yet-to-be-cast title star, will be the next DC movie to shoot.

Of course, Batman transitions have happened before. Starting in 1989, Warners has made films with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Affleck. As a source with ties to the situation observes, there is precedent in the Batman comics for Bruce Wayne handing off the mantle to others, and even for two different Batmen cleaning up the streets of Gotham simultaneously.

The landmark 1993 Knightfall storyline left Wayne temporarily paralyzed, leading him to appoint a vigilante called Azrael as his Batman replacement. When Azrael went rogue, Wayne came out of retirement to stop him and then swiftly retired once more, appointing Dick Grayson (AKA Robin) as the new Batman. That was so successful that when Wayne was assumed dead in 2009, Grayson took on the cowl for a second time. (Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises even went this route, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake getting the keys to the Batcave after Bale’s Bruce Wayne was presumed dead.)

In the comics, Grayson stayed on as Batman even when Wayne returned to work as The Dark Knight, with the two different Batmen splitting appearances between the various comic books. Bruce Wayne took Batman Inc. and Batman and Robin, while Grayson’s stories ran in Batman and Detective Comics. Grayson also appeared monthly in the Justice League of America series during this period, arguably making him the more high-profile of the two characters.

Warner Bros. could even go with the Batman Beyondapproach. The fan-favorite animated series (1999-2001) saw an elderly Bruce Wayne train a young man called Terry McGinnis as his apprentice, with Wayne teaching him to take over the role as Batman. Of course, there’s a downside to the passing-the-torch scenarios: It’s hard to imagine fans or Reeves being excited about following someone who is not Bruce Wayne for a Batman trilogy

The Batman officially has its new director

batmanaffleck_new

Well thank God it isn’t who our worst fears thought it could have been and yet it is someone who was on the high regard list to potentially direct it.

It looks like the solo Batman film has its new director and it is Matt Reeves.

Reeves who directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and more is finalizing talks to helm the caped crusaders solo film after ben Affleck, who will still star in the movie, stepped down as its director in January.

Affleck is said to still has some say so in the direction of the film as he is still writing the script with DC exec Geoff Johns. This has once again hyped the anticipation of this film. Cant wait to see how it all plays out.

Could Comedic Icon be heading to the DCEU

johncleese.jpg

So more and more is this unstable universe ever potentially expanding. Now I know that it comes off as if that we here at The Trusty Sidekick are just anti-DC, in which we are not. We want for them to put out the best possible product of the use of iconic characters.

Well recently it was noticed that Monty Python star John Cleese started following Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder on Twitter. He was also followed by the Batman v Superman UK Twitter account and set photographer Clay Enos. This lead fans to believe that Cleese may have a role in Justice League, and now, more fuel has been added to the fire.

Now its popped up that a tweet from Cleese from last week where he posted a picture of himself getting ready for a live event in his dressing room, but included in front of him was a stack of comic books!

Look at the photo in and you’ll see that Cleese has “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”, “Justice League: Origin”, and “Batman Noir: Black Mirror”.

While this doesn’t 100% confirm anything, it certainly adds fuel to the rumors that Cleese has a role in the DC Extended Universe. Let us know what you think and who could he possibly be.

Legendary DC Comics Villain Is Coming to the DCEU

slade1

OMG ! ! ! OMG! ! ! OMG ! ! ! Do I seem excited enough yet?? Well just as much as I, you should be as well. This should bring levels of ORGASMIC joy to fan boy and girls everywhere. DCEU Batman, Ben Affleck tweeted out yesterday a somewhat cryptic video of the prominent DC Comics character Deathstroke. Now according to SEVERAL news sources it is being officially reported that DEATHSTROKE will indeed be the main villain in the solo Batman film directed by and starring Affleck and ALSO will appear in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” film in 2017 (cue schoolgirl like screaming)

Now, while I am for sure not a fan of Zack Snyder directing these films, ESPECIALLY after Batman V Superman. I am sitting wit praying hands, fingers crossed and Santa Maria Candles burning that he does Slade Wilson JUSTICE (no pun intended) in the Justice League film and that Affleck can carry it on headed into the solo project.
