Fans have come to love the Thunder-Grace relationship with Thunder/Anissa Pierce played by Nafessa Williams and Grace Choi played by Chantal Thuy. Well, we will for sure be getting more of that relationship in volume in the upcoming fourth season as Chantal Thuy has been upped to a series regular on BLACK LIGHTNING that will premiere in February.
Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” saysBLACK LIGHTNING executive producer and showrunner Salim Akil. “I am sure our BLACK LIGHTNING fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. I am elated to finally welcome her officially to the team.”
Thuy’s character of Grace Choi is based on the BLACK LIGHTNING comic created by Tony Isabella with Trevor von Eeden, Grace Choi has been in a committed onscreen romantic relationship with Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) since the first season. The fan-favorite couple has consequently been through the highs and lows that any superheroes trying to maintain a personal life go through.
Thuy recently made her Broadway debut last year in Tracy Letts’ play Linda Vista with the Second Stage Theater in New York. Alongside the Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble, she reprised the role of Minnie Tran after playing the part in the Center Theatre Group’s production in Los Angeles. She also ha previously guest starred in television series such as Madam Secretary (CBS), Pretty Little Liars (Freeform) and Matador (El Rey Network). She is represented by Joseph Le Talent Agency and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
In the third season amidst all of the chaos we saw Anissa & Grace attempt at getting married which was put on hold. Hopefully we will see the nuptials given and more Grace Choi in action.
After a major turn around in his arc in Season 2 of BLACK LIGHTNING and helping the Outsiders to stop Agent O’Dell (Bill Duke), GraveDigger (Wayne Brady) and the ASA’s occupation of Freeland, PAINKILLER played by Jordan Calloway will be getting his own spinoff series as announced by the CW on today.
The pilot will air as the seventh episode in the upcoming fourth season of BLACK LIGHTNING. BLACK LIGHTNING creator Salim Akil will serve as the shows EP, Writer and Director.
The synopsis of the series is:
Khalil Payne (Jordan Calloway) is a young man ridden with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City, where, as a super-enhanced killing machine known as Painkiller, he was both a member of Tobias Whale’s gang and a weapon of Agent Odell and the shadowy ASA. After attempting to bury the darker, devastatingly lethal Painkiller part of his persona, Khalil has distanced himself away from everyone he knows and loves in a new city, Akashic Valley, in order to find peace…but peace never comes easy for men with pasts like Khalil Payne and Painkiller. As his violent, destructive history crashes his idyllic new beginning, Khalil is thrusted back into action with a new mission – bring justice where he once gave out punishment – but to do that, he will first have to deal with and harness his darker side, Painkiller.
This is very exciting news not just to see the world of BLACK LIGHTNING expanding but also for Jordan Calloway who has worked extremely hard in developing the character and getting him to connect to the audience.

The third season of BLACK LIGHTNING on the CW is underway and while many are hurrying to get to the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS crossover, this season in itself is revving up with action. Now we are being alerted to another too talent getting in on that action.
Emmy Award winner and Grammy Nominee, Wayne Brady has joined the cast in the recurring role of Tyson Sykes aka “Gravedigger”. Brady is set to beging appearing in the beginning of 2020.
Sykes is a World War II-era member of the U.S. military who became a “super soldier” after a secret experiment gifted him with enhanced strength, agility, tactical genius, and hand-to-hand combat expertise. His aim to create a sovereign land for metahumans within Markovia sets him on a collision course with the ASA and Black Lightning.
BLACK LIGHTNING stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce, a former olympian and high school principal who takes back up the mantle of his vigilante persona to help save his town of Freeland. He is also joined in his fight by bis two super powered daughters, genius wife and adopted father. It airs Mondays 9e/8c on THE CW.
The CW is gearing up for what is arguably going to be the biggest crossover ever with its Arrowverse shows in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. The shows that are the foundation for this are ARROW, THE FLASH, SUPERGIRL DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.
One show that is notably missing from the list is THE CW’s BLACK LIGHTNING. The show starring Cress Williams centered around Jefferson Pierce a former superhero turned high school principal who is brought back into the fight to save his hometown of Freeland and daughters as Black Lightning. He is also aided in his vigilante battle by his two superpowered daughters and his doctor wife. They all battle against the villainous Tobias Whale and other metahumans.
Many people were wondering whether or not the show would cross over into the arrowverse fold or would the titular hero even be part of the crossover and now we may have our answer.
In an article from FANDOMWIRE.COM is seems that is prettt much official that Black Lightning will be making an appearance in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. Cress Williams seelingly has confirmed this via his twitter.
It is being stated that Black Lightning will not have a major role but his will be similar to that of Batwoman’s in last years, ELSEWORLDS.
Black Lightning Season 3 is set to air on October 21, 2019, and will see Cress Williams (Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning), China Anne McClain (Jennifer Pierce / Lightning), Nafessa Williams (Anissa Pierce / Thunder), and James Remar (Peter Gambi).
Are you excited for this potential blockbuster news and how do you hope for it to play out?
It is less than a month away until the 50th anniversary of San Diego Comic Con is upon us. One of the notable things will be the heavy WBTV presence throughout Ballroom 20. With that one of the focuses will be be that of the CW’s Arrowverse.
The reason for this is not only will it be the eighth and final season of ARROW but also is the mega CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS crossover. This will bring together BATWOMAN, ARROW, THE FLASH, SUPERGIRL, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and no one is sure yet if BLACK LIGHTNING will fall into the fray.
We dont know fully what to expect yet in regards to the crossover or their respective shows but it seems as though we may have a bit of a tease from Arrowverse executive consultant and former ARROW showrunner Marc Guggenheim. Guggenheim took to Twitter to tease of the potential Crisis-size announcement.
Loving these so much. Everyone is hard at work already — the earliest start we've ever gotten on the crossovers — to make this as big and epic and FUN as we can conceivably manage. Don't be surprised if we announce something pretty cool at SDCC… https://t.co/70D6r9x21a
