BLACK WIDOW Film Adds A Powerhouse in Ray Winstone

Production is currently underway on the Cate Shortland directed BLACK WIDOW film starring Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the spy turned Avenger. With a cast announced already that includes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and O.T. Fagbenle it was only a matter of time before the question of how much more star power could this movie possibly get and now it has been answered.

The prequel film has added legendary British actor Ray Winstone. Now reports are that the Sexy Beast star has joined the currently shooting production, but no details on his role are provided. Although recent character breakdowns did mention an older Government Agent that could serve as a mentor of sorts to Scarlett Johansson’s budding assassin, so that’s certainly a possibly as who he will be portraying.

BLACK WIDOW Film May Have Found Its Villain

Marvel Studios solo Black Widow is set to begin production this summer in London. With a cast that includes Scarlett Johannson reprising her role as the spy turned Avenger, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and David Harbour it now seems as if we may who have found whom her villain will be.

This according to Deadline is  O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale, Breaking and Entering) . Now the report does  not mention anything about whom he will be portraying but thanks to a recent report from That Hashtag Show suggested that Marvel and director Cate Shortland were searching for a “black British actor” to play the main bad guy, so there’s a pretty good chance Fagbenle is their guy.

It looks like we may officially have our director for the solo Marvel Studios Black Widow film.  It is being reported that Marvel Studios has tapped Cate Shortland to helm their upcoming standalone movie, which will star Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the spy turned Avenger.
Full details of the film have yet to be full revealed. But it is being reported by The Hollywood Reporter that the movie will be set before the events of The Avengers  and it will tell of how the former Russian spy became the superhero we now know and love. Hearing this makes any die hard MCU fan wonder will we finally see the Budapest story that both Black Widow and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) mentioned and how did she eventually connect with one Nick Fury (Samuel L. jackson).
The Australian Shortland is best known for her critically acclaimed drama Lore and most recently helmed the Teresa Palmer-led thriller Berlin Syndrome. It was Shortland’s  handling of a female protagonist in Lore that caught the eye of Johansson, who vouched for her in the selection process.

the films script has been written by Jac Shaeffer and there is no word yet on a production start date or when we can expect the film in theaters.
