BRENDAN FRASER To Portray FIREFLY In Upcoming BATGIRL Movie

While already making waves in the DC Universe as the voice of Cliff Steele aka Robotman on HBO Max’s DOOM PATROL, it seems that Brendan Fraser is expanding his reach in the world of DC Comics as he is set to join the upcoming HBO MAX movie, BATGIRL starring Leslie Grace.

It has been reported via DEADLINE and their sources, that Fraser is set to take on the role of the supervillain Firefly in the pic.  BAD BOYS FOR LIFE directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are helming the film and Christina Hodson (BIRDS OF PREY) wrote the script.

Exact plot details on the film have yet to be released it is known that Lesile Grace will portray Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon,  behind the cape in this version. It is not confirmed if whether or not this Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Jim Gordon played by Jeffrey Wright in the upcoming THE BATMAN film starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz and directed by Matt Reeves.

The character of Firefly is a supervillain whose real name is Garfield Lynns most often known for going against Batman and Robin, and sometimes Green Arrow. He is a pyromaniac who became horrendously scarred all over his body after a chemical explosion, leading him to wear a flame proof bodysuit during his crimes. The character was seen in the first season of ARROW on The CW and a female version of the character, Bridgit Pike  was introduced in the TV series Gotham.

The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. No release date has been set.

This news has been long overdue but finally has arrived and with it brings much joy. The HARLEY QUINN animated series has officially been renewed for a third season as it migrates from the DC Universe streaming app onto its new home over at HBO MAX. The voice cast of the show which stars Kaley Cuoco who also serves as executive producer, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Tony Hale, Matt Oberg are a quintessential part of the shows success as well as its ultra violence and raw language.

DOOM PATROL Renewed For Season 3 At HBO Max

DC’s group of doomed souls have not gone on their final wild adventure as of yet. DOOM PATROL has been renewed for a third season at HBO MAX.

“On behalf of the wonderful cast, writers and crew, we are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to return to Doom Manor. And we are especially thankful for our partners at Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, DC Universe and, of course, HBO Max,” said executive producer Jeremy Carver.

The superhero series debuted on the DC Universe streaming platform for its inaugural season. Its sophomore season streamed on both the DC Universe and HBO MAX. Now it seems as if the superhero show is going to fully be an HBO MAX series going forward.

DOOM PATROL came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most watched Max Originals on the platform,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max. “The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike.”

DOOM PATROL stars Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor aka Negative Man, Diane Guerrero as Jane aka Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman and Joivan Wade as Victor Stone aka Cyborg.

STARGIRL Renewed For Second Season, Will Move From DC Universe To Become Original CW Show

image001-1-1

STARGIRL will continue to battle the Injustice Society as well as any other threat that may come to the town of Blue Valley in her second season. The DC Comics superhero show has been renewed for a sophomore season by the CW. Along with its renewal it will fully migrate over to the network as a CW original show and will leave its current mainstay home on the DC Universe.

STARGIRL was initially a DC Universe original where the first season of the series was commissioned by the digital subscription service. The CW however last fall acquired an exclusive linear window as well as play on the network’s non-linear platforms following its debut on DC Universe.  Episodes of STARGIRL currently air the next day on the CW a day after it airs on the DC Universe.

No longer will episodes be available on the DC Universe streaming platform going forward. This is seemingly the new direction the platform is taking.  The DC Universe has been focusing on its core business of DC comic book and news content for fans. DC Universe has one exclusive original series, TITANS. DOOM PATROL which recently entered its second season is now shared with HBO Max.

DOOM PATROL Season 2 To Air On DC Universe And HBO Max SIMULTANEOUSLY

Meet the Doom Patrol | DC Universe | The Ultimate Membership - YouTube

This is news that many people were waiting to hear about. Especially since it was announced the DOOM PATROL would be making its move from the DC Universe streaming app over to the HBO Max streaming platform. But the announcement that was made may add some more excitement.

The sophomore season of DOOM PATROL  which originally was a DC Universe exclusive, will debut on HBO Max and DCU on June 25 simultaneously, as announced by WarnerMedia on Wednesday.

Back in January at the Television Critics Association, HBO Max content chief Kevin Reilly said regarding HBO Max and DCU: “We have to figure out those two subscriptions and we haven’t worked out the mechanics of what that’s going to look like.” This is because it was initially believed by many that the DC Universe service would be absorbed into HBO Max.

It seems the mechanics have been worked out regarding “Doom Patrol,” a A crew member who has worked on multiple DC Universe shows told Business Insider that HBO Max had been heavily involved in season two.

DOOM PATROL is not the only DC Universe series that’s not exclusive to the service. STARGIRL premieres this upcoming Monday on DCU and will air the next day on the CW Network. The network also recently acquired the rights to season one of DCU’s SWAMP THING which was abruptly canceled last year.

One thing is for sure, the reviews on this will return and hoping for another incredible performance from Brendan Fraser and Diane Guerrero.

SWAMP THING May Have New Life On The CW

The younger-focused broadcaster has also acquired two more shows from the U.K. and Canada.

One part of this headline is a big “DUH” but the shock is the second half that many people were hoping would happen.

SWAMP THING after being officially cancelled by the DC Universe has now been acquired by the CW. CW just fresh off of adding the first two seasons of CBS All Access anthology Tell Me a Story, has licensed DC Universe’s Swamp ThingNo one knows yet when exactly the series will make its official debut on the network or if it just goes to the CW Seed app. There is now also the possibility of a resurgence on the show on the HBO MAX streaming platform.

SWAMP THING starred Crystal Reed as Dr. Abby Arcane and Derek Mears as the elemental and Andy Bean as the human version of Dr. Alec Holland.

For those who are wondering what caused the cancellation of SWAMP THING much of it was because of budget and tax breaks which were taken away in as well as the studio’s decision to bypass paying millions to store the show’s physical sets in North Carolina.

What would like to see happen with the series? Do you just want the initial episodes or pick up and keep the series going?

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY Star Karen Obilom Joins DOOM PATROL Season 2

doom patrol

Season one of DOOM PATROL on the DC Universe took the world by storm. With interesting characters, adult humor and so much more, when the season ended people have been chomping at the bit for the second season. This is especially since TITANS has already aired its 2nd season and currently filming its third.

Now there is some exciting casting news coming out about the team of doomed souls (Abigail Shapiro will play Dorothy Spinner) and this announcement has a major connection to one of the not so likely heroes.

Karen Obilom (GAMES PEOPLE PLAY)  has landed a recurring role as Roni Evers according to DEADLINE.  Evers is reportedly “a military veteran with a mysterious past who Vic Stone/Cyborg (Wade) meets while attending a PTSD support group.”

It seems that the two characters may start off bonding over their traumatic experiences, and it will eventually go wrong. Obilom appears to be playing a gender-bent version of Ronald Evers, a character that eventually becomes one of Cyborg’s foes and a cyborg himself.

DOOM PATROL season 2 does not currently have a premiere date, but Diane Guerrero, Brendan Frasier, Jovian Wade, Timothy Dalton, April Bowlby, and Matt Bomer have been confirmed to return.

You can check out the episodic reviews with Jay Washington and Winston A. Marshall below.

STARGIRL Will Air On BOTH The DC Universe And The CW

stargirl-dc-universe-logo-1131027-1280x0

There had been much talk about the future of STARGIRL, would it actually air on the DC Universe streaming site or possibly be scrapped altogether. Well we now have an answer and it is an interesting one.

According to DEADLINE, STARGIRL will be the first original DC Universe series to air on linear television. The upcoming superhero drama will play on THE CW after its debut on the DC streaming platform.

Here’s a little more clarity on how this will work. The CW will broadcast each episode in primetime the day after it premieres on the DC Universe streaming service. STARGIRL is set to debut sometime during the second quarter of 2020. A premiere date will be announced later, along with scheduling information which night the show will air on the CW.

With both BATWOMAN and SUPERGIRL heading towards their ends of season around this time this may be the perfect place to fill the void on the network.

STARGIRL stars Brec Bassinger as Coutrney Whitmore aka Stargirl along with Joel McHale, Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Cameron Gellman, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson, Jake Austin Walker, Christopher James Baker and Hunter Sansone.

BLACK ADAM Officially Has A Release Date

FB_IMG_1573752036952

We’d all known the Dwayne Johnson would be portraying SHAZAM’s main big bad, Black Adam in his own feature film but no one knew when it would arrive. It seemed as if it was the longest of ways away until the successful debut of SHAZAM in theaters and the former WWE Champion let the world know that BLACK ADAM was going into pre-production.

Now thanks to Johnson we have another update as well as a release date. Johnson posted to his official facebook page.

“The Man in Black ⚡️
Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people.
It all changed for me, when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN.
As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be.
But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be.
I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority.
Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way.
Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true.
I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM.
BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line.
He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way.
Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way.
This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together.
BLACK ADAM
12.22.21 ⚡️”

I love the palindrome of the date of December 22, 2021 but now the anticipation for this film goes full steam ahead. It is also interest that he firmly describes Black Adam as a SUPERHERO and not an Anti-hero as formally mentioned.
