We are about a month away from the arrival of the youngest future member of the Justice League in SHAZAM! on the big screen. Today we were treated to a new trailer for the upcoming film.
This time we see Billy Batson/SHAZAM! (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) learning more and more about what he can and can’t do with his super abilities along side his foster brother Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer). Along the way we see a more detailed encounter with Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong).
Check out the trailer below. SHAZAM! hits theaters April 5th.
It seems as if Floyd Lawton will not be part of the worst heroes ever when they make their return to the big screen in 2021.
Variety is reporting that Will Smith who played Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot is not expected to return for the studio’s upcoming sequel,THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Now the biggest reason being is apparently scheduling according to sources. However the decision was made on amicable terms between both sides with no hard feelings.
Warner Bros had never fully confirmed who would be returning for THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Margot Robbie however is expected to reprise her role as Harley Quinn.
The release date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.
The cast of the upcoming Harley Quinn spinoff, Birds of Prey is rounding out its cast. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations to land the last major role of Cassandra Cain.
In the new film, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) team up to protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
A bit of backstory in DC Comics, Cain is the daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, and is deprived of speech and human contact during her childhood as conditioning to become the world’s greatest assassin. She eventually befriends Bruce Wayne and goes on to become Batgirl. It is unknown whether the Batgirl element will be included in this storyline as WB is already developing a “Batgirl” movie.
“Birds of Prey” is set to bow on Feb. 7, 2020.
DCEU’s Birds of Prey film is progressing forward and has now received its working title. In Production Weekly the upcoming DC superteam film will be in prodcution under the working title “Fox Force Five”.
If the name of this title rings a bell it should because it is a reference to the fictional television pilot from Quentin Tarantino’s classic 1994 film Pulp Fiction. The pilot series that starred Uma Thurman’s character as part of a five-woman crimefighting team going on missions all over the world.
Another interesting tidbit is that the working title could also hint at the final lineup for the Gotham City-based ensemble: A five-member squad for the film would theoretically include Barbara Gordon, Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. All five characters had been rumored to be included in the film, as well as Cassandra Cain. There has not been an official lineup announcement from Warner Bros.
Birds Of Prey is directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodgson and is set to go into production in January of 2019.
Along with that it seems as if Henry Cavill will no longer be the last son of Krypton as he will no longer be reprising his role in DC films as Warner Bros. will now direct their focus towards the Supergirl movies with one currently being drafted by Oren Uziel.
This is a blow to many fans both DC and beyond as the belief was that Cavill would don his cape again to soon begin the long awaited Man of Steel sequel. Well now that is not the case as word has been seemingly that Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Supermancanon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road.
Much of this is due to the disappointing underperformance of Justice League at the box office, where it failed to gross at minimum $1 billion globally ($657.9) also falling under Wonder Woman ($821.8) and Batman V. Superman ($873.6). Which caused a massive shakeup at Warner Bros with DC FILMS.
Cavill no longer being Superman is not thr first major blow to the DC film universe as it seems that Ben Affleck will no longer be portraying Batman moving forward in the Matt Reeves, The Batman reboot.
Gal Gadot will remain on as Wonder Woman as her sequel Wonder Woman 1984 is currently in production and scheduled to be released next year. Also Jason Momoa moves forward as Aquaman, his film comes out in theaters this December .
We are still getting a solo film based on the scarlet speedster. The Flash as it will now be named and not Flashpoint as previously called, is currently getting an overhaul in its script by directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The two directors were finally locked in after much shuffling around in the directors chair position.
Currently there is no solid release nor shooting expectation date but Kiersey Clemons who was set to play Iris West has chimed in about a potential timetable. Yes. What I will say is that [Warner Bros. gets] to approve every job that I do and, so far, I’m not doing Flash for the rest of the year, we know that. I’m doing other things. But let’s hope for 2019.”
It seems as if Warner Bros may end up trying to rush production to hopefully shoot for a
possible 2020 release. But something says this is not what fans may want to hear even though they have been wanting the solo Flash project to hit the big screen.
Iconic Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer is OFFICIALLY coming back to the realm of superhero films to score the blockbuster sequel to Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984.
Zimmer’s scores are felt throughout DC’s live action films. First being part the of Christopher Nolan The Dark Knight trilogy, then Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Zimmer would return to compose the music for Snyder’s follow-up movie, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, alongside fellow composer Junkie XL.
Many may or may not be informed but Zimmer composed the epic and iconic theme for Wonder Woman that was heard in Dawn of Justice and would carry over into her first solo film.
Now the reason in which this such a major deal besides just the fact that it is Zimmer himself, is that Zimmer had announced that he had officially retired from working on superhero films. However this may not be the welcome back party to the genre. Earlier this year, Evan Peters who plays Quicksilver in the new X-men Franchise, said that Zimmer would score the upcoming X-men film, X-Men Dark Phoenix. Zimmer has not confirmed nor denied the claim.
It seems as if we may know who the bad guy will be for the upcoming Cathy Yan directed “Birds Of Prey” film. This go round we will possibly be getting the classic Batman villain, The Black Mask. This information is coming from The Wrap.
A possible plot for the film is that Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Black Canary, Huntress and others will come together to save Cassandra Cain from the clutches of a crime boss, and it now looks like said crime boss is going to be Roman Sionis aka Black Mask.
Another rumor that surfaced is that Cassandra’s father David would be the antagonist for this movie. Now how that plays into Black Mask is not yet known. But it is for sure that the classic villain will be making his way from video games and animated movies to a live action film.
The DCEU’s youngest superhero has arrived in the first trailer for “SHAZAM” starring Zachary Levi as the hero who is bestowed powers of the ancient gods.
The trailer opens with a young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) being talked to about running away from foster home to foster home. We then are introduced to Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) who jokes with Batson before ultimately befriending him.
After defending Freddy from a bully at school Billy, while on a train is told that he has been chosen to receive the power of the gods once he says the name “SHAZAM”. We’re treated to seeing how now a full grown SHAZAM (played by Zachary Levi) is adapting to his few found size and him and Freddy try to discover what abilities he has.
Check out the trailer below and let leave your thoughts.
We saw behind the scenes footage and photos of Zachary Levi as the child turned superhero, Shazam. Those pics had many people split over if they felt whether or not he would not only be able to pull off the hero in comedic tone but look as well.
Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have of first official look at Levi in the costume, cape and all.
The picture shows Levi as the fully transformed Shazam standing next to Freddy Freedman. With this picture being released and San Diego Comic Con Next Week it’s pretty much a safe bet that we will be getting a full trailer when DC invades Hall H next Saturday.
Could we also get a sneak peek of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam?
Shazam is directed by David F. Sandberg and comes out in theaters April 5, 2019
