If you know the Mad Titan’s own resident super villain, Jay Washington then you know how much the official announcement of this casting of this particular character had him excited. TITANS on the DC Universe streaming platform now has its Deathstroke in Esai Morales.
Morales known for Bad Boys, Rapa Nui, Mi Familia, Fast Food Nation, Paid in Full, The Line, Ozark (Netflix), Mozart In The Jungle (Amazon Prime), Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO), and Chicago PD(NBC) and more will take on the mantle of one of the Teen Titans (comics) most fought adversary.
According to the character bio, this version of Deathstroke, “Slade Wilson is known for being DC’s deadliest assassin. While serving his country, Slade became an elite soldier before government testing enhanced his physiology to near superhuman levels, putting him on a path of darkness and revenge. To his family, Slade is a father and husband, but to the rest of the world, he is feared by many as the infamous Deathstroke; selling his services to the highest bidder as the ruthless assassin that never gives up and never misses.” The character was most recently portrayed by Manu Bennett on Arrow.
It seems as if the dangerous Wilson family is complete for TITANS on the DC Universe. Over the weekend it was announced that Chelsea T. Zhang from the Disney channel’s Andi Mack will be portraying Rose Wilson a.k.a Ravager, Slade Wilson (Deathstroke’s) daughter.
Now for those not familar with the comic lore of the character Wilson has been depicted as both an enemy to and member of The Titans, and based on the official character description, it sounds like this small-screen take on Ravager is going to follow a similarly duplicitous path.
“Daughter of the deadly assassin, Deathstroke, Rose Wilson was forced to undergo the same procedure that granted her father nearly superhuman abilities, becoming a weapon known as Ravager. Ever resentful, she seeks out the Titans not only for their protection but to get back at her father. Knowing how dangerous it is to be the offspring of their deadliest foe, the Titans take her in but that doesn’t necessarily mean they trust her.”
Zhang joins Chella Man as Jericho, and Esai Morales as Slade Wilson. Season 2 of Titans doesn’t have a premiere date, but filing is expected to begin next month.
One of DC’s greatest villains, Deathstroke the Terminator aka Slade Wilson is expected to debut in the second season of successful DC streaming show, Titans in some capacity, and now it may be that the mercenary is not going to be tormenting the heroes by himself. .
Thanks to a report from That Hashtag Show, both Joseph Wilson, aka Jericho, and Rose Wilson, aka Ravager, will be joining their father when the DC Universe series returns for its sophomore run.
Late last year Geoff Johns teased a different take on Deathstroke for the show, and this report seems to back that tease up. This incarnation of the mercenary is described as “a military man with a family but whose demanding nature tore that family apart.” Rose, meanwhile, will be introduced as “a strong, yet damaged woman looking to put her past behind her and find a new family to replace the one that her father destroyed.”
In the comics, Ravager has been portrayed as both an antagonist and member of The Titans, so there’s a decent chance the show will follow suit in that regard. A version of Ravager was attempted in the second season of Arrow by Summer Glau. Apparently, mixed Latinx and mixed Asian actresses in the 18-21 age range are being looked at for the role.
A version of Joe Wilson was done during the 3rd annual Arrowverse crossover played by Liam Hall.
We may have an “official” confirmation as to who is going to be our Deathstroke in the solo film. Joe Manginello who is set to play the mercenary in the solo caped crusader film “The Batman” has just posted to his personal Twitter account which has some believing it will indeed be him in the lone Slade Wilson movie.
The Trusty Sidekicks own Resident Super Villain is beyond excited hearing this potential news. One of his favorite and to be honest many people’s favorite DC Comics character may be getting his own solo film and it may be helmed by a very good up & coming director.
Here is a story from TheWrap
TheWrap reports that Gareth Evans is in talks to write and direct a standalone Deathstroke film for DC Comics and Warner Brothers.
Evans is best known for directing the Indonesian martial arts film The Raid and its sequel. He was originally eyed to direct Justice League Dark but ultimately passed on the project and instead impressed studio executives with his pitch for a standalone Deathstroke film. Joe Manganiello is on board to star as the supervillain.
After Manu Bennett’s performance as Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke, on The CW’s Arrow, it came as no great surprise when the character resurged in DC’s relaunch of its entire line of comics titled “New 52”. Subsequently, the character was then announced as the villain for the upcoming solo Batman film last year when Ben Affleck tweeted out a visual effects test featuring the fan-favorite character.
The original Batman script from Affleck and DC creative chief officer Geoff Johns featured Deathstroke as the main villain. However, after War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves replaced Affleck as the film’s director, Reeves confirmed the project would be starting over with a completely new story, making it unclear whether or not Manganiello would still star as the villain of the piece.
How excited are you are you or do you not want a solo Slade Wilson film?
OMG ! ! ! OMG! ! ! OMG ! ! ! Do I seem excited enough yet?? Well just as much as I, you should be as well. This should bring levels of ORGASMIC joy to fan boy and girls everywhere. DCEU Batman, Ben Affleck tweeted out yesterday a somewhat cryptic video of the prominent DC Comics character Deathstroke. Now according to SEVERAL news sources it is being officially reported that DEATHSTROKE will indeed be the main villain in the solo Batman film directed by and starring Affleck and ALSO will appear in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” film in 2017 (cue schoolgirl like screaming)
Now, while I am for sure not a fan of Zack Snyder directing these films, ESPECIALLY after Batman V Superman. I am sitting wit praying hands, fingers crossed and Santa Maria Candles burning that he does Slade Wilson JUSTICE (no pun intended) in the Justice League film and that Affleck can carry it on headed into the solo project.
