I think it’s pretty safe to say James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD is locked and loaded with talent on all fronts and this latest casting announcement just adds to it.
DEADLINE just broke the news that Comedian Steve Agee is the latest addition to the “worst heroes ever” sequel. Agee will provide the voiceover to super-villain King Shark, who most recently was seen on The CW’s THE FLASH.
Agee already has a working relationship with Gunn as he was in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 as Gef, a member of the Ravagers. This is also not the first time Agee will be utilizing his voice talents. He can also be heard on Cartoon Network’s ADVENTURE TIME and Netflix’s TWELVE FOREVER.
James Gunn is non stop with the recruiting for THE SUICIDE SQUAD. In addtion to working with returning cast members Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinneman (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and new additions John Cena (Peacemaker), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), David Dastmalchian (Polka Dot Man).
Now you can add another high profile name to the list. It is being reported by Forbes that Guardians of the Galaxy actor, Benecio Del Toro is on Gunn’s radar to play the movie’s big bad, a character known as “The General.” It is worth noting there are several established DC Comics villains that have used this moniker, including Wade Ellering and Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong. All we know about this guy is that he’ll be a new thorn in Task Force X’s side.
Are you excited for this potential casting news?
In a move that pretty sure would never upset anyone, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 & Vol 2 director James Gunn has said that he will help to oversee the Marvel Cosmic Universe after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
Back in April , he first brought up that he would return to helm Guardians Vol 3. Now he has told to IGN that he will not only be at the helm of Vol. 3, but he will also work with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to help oversee the future of the entire Cosmic Universe wing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the post-Avengers: Infinity War phase of the MCU.
“We talk about it all the time,” Gunn said of his role in the overall Marvel Cosmic Universe. “It’s already a part of what I’m doing with Marvel and the conversations that Kevin and I have every day. When we’re talking about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3,’ and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.”
Gunn had previously stated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will take place years after Vol. 2 and will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians, and serve as a launching pad for new Marvel characters that will permeate the MCU for years afterwards.
This is some amazing information after hearing that the MCU can and will span into different individual universes being the aforementioned Marvel Cosmic Universe and the Marvel Quantum Universe.
