It is becoming a surreal couple of weeks for Warner Media. 1st the announcement that the, Zack Snyder cut of Justice League will be coming to HBO Max then today the launching of the new streaming platform and now news has come out that Henry Cavill is in talks to put back on his bodysuit and cape as the man of steel for multiple DC movies.
The report was first released by THE WRAP, It is being reported that the full extent of Cavill’s return to the role — whether just for additional work to be done for the upcoming “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” or for appearances in future films — has not been disclosed. This also includes a sequel to the Zack Snyder helmed MAN OF STEEL.
Now if you can recall, after the unsuccessful theatrical run of JUSTICE LEAGUE Warner Bros.went into sort of a dismantling and rebuilding mode. This was from leadership to was rethinking its overall strategy for DC Comics movies, moving away from the shared universe approach and toward standalone films.
A few months after Cavill departed his role, so did Batman actor Ben Affleck. Aflleck who was supposed to write, direct and star in the planned standalone THE BATMAN. The film has since been rewritten to focus on a younger Dark Knight and Robert Pattinson has since been cast in the role.
One thing that can be for sure throughout all of this, Cavill will more than likely not have any jarring mustache issues.
What are your thoughts on this and what do you think Cavill’s role will be.
Whelp…… it’s finally happening. This is news that many people were waiting to hear about. Especially since it was announced the DOOM PATROL would be making its move from the DC Universe streaming app over to the HBO Max streaming platform. But the announcement that was made may add some more excitement.
The sophomore season of DOOM PATROL which originally was a DC Universe exclusive, will debut on HBO Max and DCU on June 25 simultaneously, as announced by WarnerMedia on Wednesday.
Back in January at the Television Critics Association, HBO Max content chief Kevin Reilly said regarding HBO Max and DCU: “We have to figure out those two subscriptions and we haven’t worked out the mechanics of what that’s going to look like.” This is because it was initially believed by many that the DC Universe service would be absorbed into HBO Max.
It seems the mechanics have been worked out regarding “Doom Patrol,” a A crew member who has worked on multiple DC Universe shows told Business Insider that HBO Max had been heavily involved in season two.
DOOM PATROL is not the only DC Universe series that’s not exclusive to the service. STARGIRL premieres this upcoming Monday on DCU and will air the next day on the CW Network. The network also recently acquired the rights to season one of DCU’s SWAMP THING which was abruptly canceled last year.
One thing is for sure, the reviews on this will return and hoping for another incredible performance from Brendan Fraser and Diane Guerrero.
One part of this headline is a big “DUH” but the shock is the second half that many people were hoping would happen.
SWAMP THING after being officially cancelled by the DC Universe has now been acquired by the CW. CW just fresh off of adding the first two seasons of CBS All Access anthology Tell Me a Story, has licensed DC Universe’s Swamp Thing. No one knows yet when exactly the series will make its official debut on the network or if it just goes to the CW Seed app. There is now also the possibility of a resurgence on the show on the HBO MAX streaming platform.
SWAMP THING starred Crystal Reed as Dr. Abby Arcane and Derek Mears as the elemental and Andy Bean as the human version of Dr. Alec Holland.
For those who are wondering what caused the cancellation of SWAMP THING much of it was because of budget and tax breaks which were taken away in as well as the studio’s decision to bypass paying millions to store the show’s physical sets in North Carolina.
What would like to see happen with the series? Do you just want the initial episodes or pick up and keep the series going?
We have been waiting for more information on the upcoming Greg Berlanti produced GREEN LANTERN series for HBO Max. Information more specifically as to which members of the Green Lantern corp, who would be starring in the series, plot and so much more. Thanks to the current Television Critics Association winter press tour we are not beginning to have some of the answers fall into place.
HBO Max’s head of originals, Sarah Aubrey, laid out a few details as to what the show in itself would be about. Aubrey says that the series “will span several decades and focus on origin stories and two major Green Lanterns on Earth.” It was also mentioned that it will feature Sinestro, a popular Green Lantern villain.
During the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday, Aubrey said they are in the “early stages of talking to him about.” She continued that it “will span several decades and focus on origin stories of two major Green Lanterns on earth.” She added it will also feature Sinestro, a major villain from the comics.
Sinestro is a former member of the Green Lantern corp. who eventually turns evil. He was played by Mark Strong in the 2009 DC movie that starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Now the question which as of right now is up to interpretation is which Green Lantern members will be the focus.
There are many fans who would not mind seeing another iteration of Hal Jordan, possibly Jessica Cruz, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and potentially John Stewart. Stewart has been a hot subject for many fans of Berlanti’s Arrowverse on the CW. The reason being many have been hoping to see John Diggle played by David Ramsey pick up the ring and become the guardian of Earth.
There have been many potential clues or Easter Eggs as to whether or not Diggle actually is John Stewart. clues such as his stepfather, Gen. Roy Stewart (played by Ernie Hudson) who was introduced in ARROW. Along with a reference in which Barry Allen from Earth-90 (played by John Wesley Shipp) looks at Diggle and mentions he does not have in ring on in the ELSEWORLDS crossover event.
Stay tuned for more information about this show as it develops.
