Marvel TV Is Shutting Down With Production Folding Into Marvel Studios

The Marvel television that we have known for the past decade (yes, the same one that gave us the INHUMANS lol) is unfortunately shutting down.

This automatically leaves people to wonder what will happen to the upcoming four announced animated series headed over to Hulu, the upcoming HELSTROM as well as the last season of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.  will still be made. Everything will be folded into Marvel Studios.

“The decision has been made to complete Marvel TV projects that are currently in production, but not continue with any further development,” noted the TV division Tuesday. Layoffs are expected with the change in status for the once burgeoning small screen team, but not definite positions have been identified at present for the chop.

Things have been one blow after another for Marvel television. From the cancellation of the Marvel Shows at Netflix (DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST, THE PUNISHER), the scrapping of GHOST RIDER and the cancellations of CLOAK AND DAGGER as well as the recent announcement of the end of RUNAWAYS. The writing was seemingly already on the walls and everything has finally played out the way it should.

With the set of Marvel Studios original shows set to hit Disney plus soon it is going to be interesting to see what happens.

Could ALL Of The Marvel Television Shows Soon Be Falling Under The Marvel Studios Banner?

Loki

One of the big things that Marvel Studios is doing on top of the Phase 4 and 5 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the big MCU TV shows they are producing for the Disney plus streaming site. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige is developing a number of big budget TV shows for the Disney+ streaming service. But now it seems that may not be all because days after Hulu pulled the plug on GHOST RIDER, it’s now believed that all future live-action small screen productions will fall solely under Feige’s Marvel Studios banner.

A Marvel Television insider recently told Variety that they at HULU have “several” live-action projects in the works. But for know the only one that known is HELSTROM as the rest have either been scrapped or have uncertain futures. RUNAWAYS and CLOAK AND DAGGER (both which are set to air upcoming seasons) have yet to be renewed beyond their upcoming seasons.

It’s being reported that the plan now is for Marvel Studios to basically be in charge of everything to ensure that the stories put out there are of a consistent quality. With the Disney+ shows, “Marvel Studios execs and Feige held meetings early on to discuss how to maintain the visual standard fans have come to expect from Marvel’s films while still bringing their budgets more in line with other TV shows.”

Marvel Television has never really recovered from the embarrassment of THE INHUMANS, which many do not like to speak of. Along with the cancellations of the Marvel Netflix shows it is very understandable. But the animated projects which are set to hit HULU are still all set to go .

Now, it sounds like Marvel Television’s future projects will mostly be of the animated variety.

Marvel Is Heading Into An “Adventure Into Fear” With Hulu

When Marvel Television’s partnership with Netflix came to an end and cancelled some favorite’s such as DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST and THE PUNISHER, fans quickly learned that the streaming team up was not done. They had teamed up with Hulu for a number of new original series, including Hit-MonkeyTigra & Dazzler, and M.O.D.O.K.

But thanks to Jeph Loeb, there is now new and exciting information  as what’s to come with the Marvel and Hulu partnership and specifically whats to come for Ghost Rider and Helstrom.

Recently while speaking with Deadline, Loeb said that the horror filled shows will fall under a banner called “Adventure Into Fear,” Now for comic books fans who are wondering why this may sound familiar, it is because that name shared by a Marvel Comics title from the 1970s. Loeb also spoke on that while negotiations where happening with Hulu they realized “there were three or four shows that” could fit under the “Adventure into Fear” banner. Now of course two  of these are obviously the ones we know of GHOST RIDER and HELSTROM, Loeb confirmed there are still a couple of shows that have yet to be “revealed to the world.”

Finally, even though most will classify this collection of Marvel series as horror (i.e Marvel knights), Loeb said that isn’t the term he’d use, because mainly horror is a bit too broad of a description.

“No, it’s terror, because when you say horror, it means so many different things……What we love is the notion of how we can present a Marvel hero who was truly feared and truly believed that they were a monster, but that, as the stories go on, they realize, oh, I’m the hero of the story, I’m not the villain of the story.” Loeb spoke on how the shows would be different from those that are filled with guts and gore.

GHOST RIDER Is Getting his Own Series Over At HULU

When Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes walked into another dimension during the last episode of the “Ghost Rider” portion of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D many of us were left wondering if we would see the rider ever again. Now our questions have been answered and this time he is getting his own series on Hulu. Luna is set to reprise his role as Robbie Reyes as well.

Hulu announced that new Ghost Rider and Helstrom series are both in the works as part of its growing partnership with Marvel Television, with both shows set to premiere in 2020.

Helstrom, will focus on Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of “a mysterious and powerful serial killer,” who track down “the terrorizing worst of humanity.” For those familiar with the comics, Daimon Hellstrom, a.k.a. Hellstorm, is the literal son of Satan, so its not 100% certain that this series will follow along those lines.
