When you hear that a project like THE SUICIDE SQUAD is constantly grabbing high level talent and with a director such as James Gunn at the helm you cant help but to continually have your anticipation build. This is another one of those times.
DEADLINE is reporting that DOCTOR WHO actor Peter Capaldi, who also is an Academy Award winner (1995) is joining THE SUICIDE SQUAD. But the announcements do not stop there. It is also being reported that SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE‘s Pete Davidson has been in talks for a small cameo in the pic, and there’s a chance he’ll do it between breaks on the shot. That deal is still coming together.
No details were given in regards to which roles Capaldi or Davidson will play. What do you think of this news and who would you like to see these characters portray on the big screen?
The man who re-invigorated the THOR film series thanks to THOR RAGNAROK and is getting ready to jump back into it with THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER ,and already has a jam packed Fall lined up is potentially making his way onto the superhero franchise aisle. DEADLINE is reporting that actor, director and writer, Taika Waitii is currently in talks to join James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD for Warner Bros and DC.
Waititi is currently promoting his Fox Searchlight comedy JOJO RABBIT (opening Oct. 18) and beginning work on NEXT GOAL WINS, his next directorial for the studio classic label. There are no reports on what his role will be or even how big it will be.
Waititi would join a growing cast that includes Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) as well as new castmembers Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), John Cena (Peacemaker) Flula Borg, Steve Agee (King Shark) and Nathan Fillion.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD is set to hit theaters August 6, 2021.
I think it’s pretty safe to say James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD is locked and loaded with talent on all fronts and this latest casting announcement just adds to it.
DEADLINE just broke the news that Comedian Steve Agee is the latest addition to the “worst heroes ever” sequel. Agee will provide the voiceover to super-villain King Shark, who most recently was seen on The CW’s THE FLASH.
Agee already has a working relationship with Gunn as he was in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 as Gef, a member of the Ravagers. This is also not the first time Agee will be utilizing his voice talents. He can also be heard on Cartoon Network’s ADVENTURE TIME and Netflix’s TWELVE FOREVER.
The Suicide Squad that is. Storm Reid from A WRINKLE IN TIME has signed on to join James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Now it is being reported that Reid is set to play Idris Elba’s daughter in the film. Elba, who was recently revealed to be portraying Brock Turner aka Bronze Tiger in the film will be part of the group of anti-heroes based on DC Comics characters.
The group includes returning cast members, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinneman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller along with newcomers Daniela Melchior, John Cena and David Dastmalchian.

James Gunn is non stop with the recruiting for THE SUICIDE SQUAD. In addtion to working with returning cast members Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinneman (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and new additions John Cena (Peacemaker), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), David Dastmalchian (Polka Dot Man).
Now you can add another high profile name to the list. It is being reported by Forbes that Guardians of the Galaxy actor, Benecio Del Toro is on Gunn’s radar to play the movie’s big bad, a character known as “The General.” It is worth noting there are several established DC Comics villains that have used this moniker, including Wade Ellering and Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong. All we know about this guy is that he’ll be a new thorn in Task Force X’s side.
Are you excited for this potential casting news?
There had been much speculation as to who Idris Elba would be portraying in James Gunn reboot/sequel THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Now it seems as if the guessing game is over as it is being reported that Elba will be Brock Turner a.k.a BRONZE TIGER.
Forbes is reporting the character for the British actor. now Bronze Tiger has already been seen within the DC television universe. He is portrayed by Michael Jai White in Arrow and he is known for being a member of Task Force X also known as the Suicide Squad. Turner is also one of the greatest martial artists in the DC Universe, a member of the League of Assassins, and has something of a frenemy relationship with Deathstroke.
Now of course there will be a Deathstroke in the DC Universe TITANS season 2 but the merc was portrayed by Joe Manganiello in JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Idris Elba can be seen this summer in the upcoming HOBBS AND SHAW film with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD is set to hit theaters in August 2021
James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD is loading up with all star talent. From the newest additions to the squad in John Cena, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian & Daniela Melchior to returning members Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney & Joel Kinneman this film already seems stacked to the brim.
Well now you can add another name to the list of top tier talent. Michael Rooker, who worked with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol’s 1 & 2 as Yondu Udonta, will now be taking on the role of King Shark in the SUICIDE SQUAD sequel.
The character of King Shark has been gaining in popularity as of late thanks to his appearances in The Flash TV series. This will be the character’s first big screen live-action appearance. Because of King Shark’s massive size and heavy usage of CGI its completely possible that Rooker will be primarily performing voice work and IF we see the actor it will be in flashbacks.
Up-and-coming Portuguese actress/model newcomer Daniela Melchioris is set to take on the role of Ratcatcher, as a new recruit in James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD. The character, has the ability to telepathically communicate with and control rats and was originally introduced as a Batman villain in the late ’80s.
It is worth noting that this take on Ratcatcher will have a connection to Idris Elba’s mysterious character, which seemingly confirms that the star was originally set to replace Will Smith as Deadshot after all. As she will be a surrogate daughter to Deadshot.
For people who are unfamiliar with Ratcatcher, in the comics Ratcatcher was a man named Otis Flannegan but the role is going to be gender-switched for the movie. In a breakdown for the character, she is described as “an exterminator in Gotham City that turns to a life of crime aided by an army of small rodents that she can communicate with and control. She is also a fan of poisonous gas.”
