RIVERDALE Star Eyed To Become New Protector Of Gotham

The drama surrounding the CW’s BATWOMAN has been just as much as what’s in the show itself. From Ruby Rose’s departure as the lead character, to her reasoning being revealed, to news that now the show will replace Rose’s Kate Kane altogether with a new character as opposed to recasting, this story has been one worth following.

There is now another chapter to this tale thanks to The Cinema Spot. It is being reported that RIVERDALE star, Vanessa Morgan is being eyed to take up the mantle of the new Ryan Wilder character. Initially after the announcement to replace Rose was made, many fans began to push back especially on social media stating that they would not be watching the sophomore season.

It is worth noting that Morgan is the only black lead on RIVERDALE and she recently called out the CW for its sidelining of black leads:

Tired of how Black people are portrayed in Media, tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous or angry scary people. Tired of us also being used as sidekick non-dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show.

RIVERDALE creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa replied with the following:

We hear Vanessa. We love Vanessa. She’s right. We’re sorry and we make the same promise that we did to her. We will do better to honor her and the character she plays. As well as all of our actors and characters of color. CHANGE is happening and will continue to happen. Riverdale will get bigger, not smaller. Riverdale will be part of the movement, not outside it.

It was previously announced that, spoiler alert, Riverdale is set to do a time jump heading into Season 5. Therefore, it is likely that if Morgan gets the role of Ryan Wilder, her Riverdale character Toni Topaz will not be returning after the time jump.

Also it is being report that along with her audition, Vanessa Morgan will also be doing a screen test. This screen test will presumably be done with other members of the main cast.

Now just because she is screen testing it does not mean she is a lock and other actresses cannot audition for the role. The CW is looking for an actress who is younger than 30 years old, and “gets” Berlanti Productions and its culture.

Ruby Rose Soars In With First Photo in Batwoman Costume

She has come to “slay” and protect Gotham City . The CW has released the first picture of Ruby Rose as Kate Kane aka Batwoman who will make her debut on the annual Arrowverse crossover and this look does not disappoint.

Rose, who was announced to portray the Jewish lesbian super hero received a lot of backlash. She was told that she was not lesbian enough and in some instances did not look Jewish enough. Rose, who is a lesbian, silenced the complaints saying “When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable… when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…if you need me I’ll be on my batphone.” She then deleted her Twitter account.

Rose is supporting a head full of fiery red hair and dons the signature cowl and cape designed by four-time Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood,

The annual Arrowverse crossover event will kickoff on the CW Sunday, Dec. 9 at 8 PM ET.

Check out Rose below and let your thoughts be known.

Batwoman Is Getting Her Own Show

It was recently announced that Kate Kane aka Batwoman would be joining the CW’s Arrowverse during their next major crossover event in December. Now it seems that she will be a more permanent fixture in the universe by helming her own show.

This is groundbreaking and unique because Kane will be the first gay lead character in a Comic Book show or movie.  The Arrowverse has its share of great LGBTQ characters; Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) – Arrow, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) – Supergirl, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz)- DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Captain Singh( Patrick Sabongui) – The Flash.  Also introduced during the Crisis on Earth X crossover last year was The Ray (Russell Tovey) and his relationship with Earth X’s Captain Cold/Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller). The Ray became historic because the character was carried over to his own animated show on CW Seed making him the first gay lead in an animated show.

The in-development series is to be produced by former The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries and the architect of the CW Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti. Arguably the best part of this as that for casting is about to begin for an actress, who is lesbian identifying. If Batwoman goes to pilot, the same actress will play the central character in it.
