Superman is No Longer A Priority For Warner Bros.

Along with that it seems as if Henry Cavill will no longer be the last son of Krypton as he will no longer be reprising his role in DC films as Warner Bros. will now direct their focus towards the Supergirl movies with one currently being drafted by Oren Uziel.

This is a blow to many fans both DC and beyond as the belief was that Cavill would don his cape again to soon begin the long awaited Man of Steel sequel. Well now that is not the case as word has been seemingly that Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Supermancanon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road.

Much of this is due to the disappointing underperformance of Justice League at the box office, where it failed to gross at minimum $1 billion globally ($657.9) also falling under Wonder Woman ($821.8) and Batman V. Superman ($873.6). Which caused a massive shakeup at Warner Bros with DC FILMS.

Cavill no longer being Superman is not thr first major blow to the DC film universe as it seems that Ben Affleck will no longer be portraying Batman moving forward in the Matt Reeves, The Batman reboot.

Gal Gadot will remain on as Wonder Woman as her sequel Wonder Woman 1984 is currently in production and scheduled to be released next year. Also Jason Momoa moves forward as Aquaman, his film comes out in theaters this December .

Henry Cavill Teases Black Suit Superman

SPOILER ALERT… but by now if you don’t know, well, shit. Zack Snyder’s “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” ended with the Man of Steel being killed in his battle with Doomsday, shadowing the Death of Superman story line from the comics. Yesterday, the Boy Scout himself, Henry Cavill Instagramed a close up shot of the new Black Superman Suit with the hashtag #Superman, which we’ll presumably see in the new Justice League movie due out on November 17th, 2017.

This MAY indicate that the Justice League film will resurrect the Man of Steel paralleling the “Return of Superman” story line in the 90’s when Krypton’s Last Son wore the black regeneration suit while we was getting his powers back after, well, being dead.

This isn’t the first time Cavill will have worn a black House of El battle suit though. In Zack Snyder’s 2013 “Man of Steel”, during a dream sequence Cavill’s Superman wore a black Super suit while talking to General Zod.

Man Of Steel 2 is in Active Development

Man of Steel 2 has finally entered active development! Very poor reviews don’t seem to be affecting Warner Bros. and DC Films at the box office as much as one might think. Despite getting trashed on Rotten Tomatoes, Suicide Squad just shattered virtually every record in the books for an August opening to the tune of $135 million. And it is doing quite well overseas as well. But Warner Bros. knows they can’t keep the rest of the general public on board if their movies keep getting trashed by critics. So it looks like they are turning to their golden boy (or man in this case) to right the ship. Yes, it looks like we are getting a proper Man of Steel sequel.

According to a new report fromThe Wrap, Man of Steel 2 is in “active development,” which they have learned by a source close to the project. They weren’t able to name the source specifically, but this news doesn’t come as a huge surprise and makes quite a bit of sense. Well, it makes sense as long as Zack Snyder manages to bring Superman back to life in Justice League, which he has already pretty much confirmed to be the case.

Man of Steel kicked off the DC Extended Universe back in 2013 and was the first Superman movie we had seen since Bryan Singer’s much maligned Superman Returns from 2006. The Zack Snyder take on Superman did well enough at the box office, bringing in $668 million worldwide, and was enough for Warner Bros. to move ahead with a full slate of DC Comics movies. Those movies started with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, also directed by Zack Snyder, and that did not go nearly as well as anyone would have hoped.

One of the primary issues with Batman V Superman was the treatment of Superman in what was essentially a sequel to Man of Steel. He played second fiddle to Batman, and was not handled in a way that made fans happy. Not to mention that, as it stands, he is six feet under after getting stabbed to death by Doomsday. People also weren’t happy about the treatment of the character beyond his origin in Man of Steel, most notably when he brutally killed General Zod on screen and destroyed an entire city, somewhat needlessly. The point is, despite Henry Cavillbeing pretty much perfect for the role of Superman, Warner Bros. has not handled him very well, and they know it.

The report claims that the studio is very aware that fans are not happy, and that getting the character right is a top priority for Warner Bros. There is no word on if they want Zack Snyder to also helm Man of Steel 2, but it seems unlikely. Not only is Snyder busy with Justice League at the moment, but if Warner Bros. really wants to get the character right, they will probably want to get a director with a different take and push it in a different direction.

For better or for worse, Man of Steel is currently the most well reviewed movie in the DCEU. Both Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad have an abysmal 27 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Man of Steel sits at a bad but better 55 percent approval rating. There is no word on when we can expect Man of Steel 2, but we are likely going to have to wait a while. Warner Bros. has two untitled DC comics movies to be released on Oct. 5, 2018 and Nov. 1, 2019. Odds are, one of those will be the Ben Affleck directed Batman movie, and the other could very well be Man of Steel 2. We will (probably) next see Cavill as Superman in Justice League on November 17, 2017.
