Recently Disney released their slate of films and THE NEW MUTANTS was once again pushed back until 2020. Many of us were under the belief that the film that was shot would be that which would be released because of the issue of getting the reshoots done.
Well now it seems as if those reshoots will happen and producer Simon Kinberg has given an update of sorts.
“What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. That’s really it,” he said when asked for an update. “Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together He goes on to say“For all of these movies, Marvel’s really brilliant at scheduling pick-ups into their budget and schedule so it’s all prepared, and we have never been that smart,” he added, seemingly confirming that the Marvel Studios team is now spearheading the creative side of things. “For us, we’re always scrambling to get these actors back together so they’re all in the same place at the same time.”
What do you all think of this? Are you still excited for the film.
Montreal outlet, LaPresse had originally reported that X-men Dark Phoenix would be undergoing reshoots that were scheduled to last three months thus VASTLY changing the film. However now sources close to the production are saying that is absurd and will only last two and a half weeks.
This amount of time is considered standard when it comes to major blockbusters and getting the exact tone and feel that both the director and the studio feel comfortable with. Many of these reshoots were also based on test screenings of the film. These reshoots involve some additional action in the film’s third act, a couple of new scenes, and adding some shots for existing scenes. So not a reshoot of the entire film as what a 3 month schedule of reshoots would indicate.
It had been noted previously that one of the reasons for the push back of the films initial release date is the inability to quickly get the reshoots finished. Sophie Turner who plays Jean Grey, the central character was tied up with filming on HBO’s Game Of thrones and James McAvoy who is filming on IT:Chapter Two. Nonetheless, all of the cast member necessary for the reshoots will hit Montreal for them and we will hope for the best.
X-men Dark Phoenix hits theaters on February 14, 2019
Now this may be a good or bad thing but the word around the campfire is that the reason in which 20th Century Fox’s The New Mutants is being delayed again is because supposedly a little over 50% of the movie is having to be re-shot.
The teenage mutant film was already pushed back by 10 months in January, from April 13, 2018 to Feb. 22, 2019, purportedly to ratchet up the horror elements, and to add another character. But NOW from news broke on Tuesday that The New Mutants will move again, Aug. 2, 2019.
Now According to Collider, director JoshBoone delivered a new cut of the film, but Fox executives expressed that they want more additional photography, to make sure that the mutant horror film has its own distinct and unique vibe similar to how both way Deadpool and Logan are. The article goes on to further say more than 50 percent of the film could end up being reshot, which again is to bring a new or multiple characters into the story.
The film that originally was supposed to hit theaters this April and has been pushed back until next year is currently under going some reshoots. Now reshoots are nothing new and of course we hear about them with almost every film. But in this case it is a bit interesting because the reports are now out that those for Fox’s The New Mutants are adding a new character to the film.
Now it’s not known whether this new character is a new villain, a younger mutant or maybe even some top notch high-profile cameo. Let us know what you think.
Remember how a couple of weeks ago word had come out that the upcoming Justice League film was doing reshoots and everyone including us here at The Trusty Sidekick were basically like “it’s ok, these things happen all the time. No need to worry.” Well we wouldn’t say that there is need to worry but there has been word that these reshoots may have some real substance.
A new rumor states that Justice League will be filming in London from June thru August and that the additional scenes are “substantial.” However, it’s likely that these changes were already planned as Joss Whedon was hired to write them long before Zack Snyder tragically stepped away from the production.
Executive producer Charles Roven recently commented on the additonal scenes, implying that they were minimal in nature but would take a relatively significant amount of time to complete due to each actor’s busy schedule (i.e. Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in Australia shooting Aquaman, Gal Gadot doing press for Wonder Woman, Cavill busy with Mission Impossible, etc.).
A morning Instagram post from Henry Cavill appears to confirm that he’s already in London. His social media account shows that he’s in full Man of Steel attire while hanging out in his trailer and enjoying a nice cup of coffee
Justice League is currently slated to arrive in theaters on November 17. Regardless of whether there’s extensive new footage being shot or scheduling issues to work through, the time required to film these additional scenes could mean WB is forced to push the release date back. But I think we all can agree that if this gives us a better product in the end it is all worth it.
