SHAZAM! came through the feature film scene light a lightning bolt….ok bad pun I’ll stop. But none the less after the amazing feature debut of the big cheese starring Ashar Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as SHAZAM.
Levi started the panel in a “SHAZOOM” and attempted to take fan questions to none of which he could actually answering. But then he brings in Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Megan Good and Faithe Herman. After Zachary says that he had made his own Zach cut of the film, director David F. Sandberg showed up.
In a surprise legendary comedian SINBAD joins the panel and jokes about the theory that he was in a movie (that didnt exist) called SHAZAM. Followed up by Adam Brody we then get the official title of the sequel and its SHAZAM:FURY OF THE GODS.
These are two comic book movies where fans everywhere have been like “Oh you know there is gonna be a crossover of sorts happening.” Granted we all know the history between the two characters and not to mention a recently released deleted scene from SHAZAM! seems to further reference the big cheese’s arch nemesis.
Well now get ready to rev up the speculation machine even more because now it is being reported that both the SHAZAM! sequel and BLACK ADAM will both be shooting at the same time this July. Both films are currently in pre-production
Now SHAZAM! star Zachary Levi has said previously that the characters would not meet on the big screen until the third installment of the film. But the idea that both schedules align such as this and there is NO crossover seems kind of crazy. It most likely would be in a post-credits scene for SHAZAM! that the pair come in contact, especially since it would then be the lead in to the third film. Along with the concurrent filming schedules of both the release dates could also give clue that during filming something may happen. BLACK ADAM releases first on December 22nd, 2021 and SHAZAM! 2follows on April 1st, 2022.
Also this all may just be wishful thinking as the current slate of DCEU films have been standalone and has yielded much success for Warner Bros. There will of course be set photos showing cast members on opposite sets but locations will be the ultimate teller and then again they may just have the day off.
Just say the word, the sequel to Warner Bros and New Line Cinema’s hit superhero film, SHAZAM! will be striking back into theaters on April of 2022 with SHAZAM! 2. Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role as the big cheese, the adult version of Billy Batson. the film’s original screenplay writer Henry Gayden has been tapped to write the DC superhero movie’s sequel.
The first SHAZAM! made a shock at the box office for Levi, director David F. Sandberg and Peter Safran as it grossed $140 million domestically and $364 worldwide.
SHAZAM! starred Asher Angel as Billy Batson, an orphan who runs away from foster home to foster home in search of his mother whom he was separated from as a toddler. He is eventually bestowed magical superpowers unto him by a wizard (Djimon Hounsou), that transforms him into his full potential in adult form (Zachary Levi). He must battle Doctor Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) and stop the Seven Deadly Sins from reeking havoc and destruction upon the world. Billy is also aided in this task by his foster brother, Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and their other foster siblings.
It is not yet been reported if Asher, Strong, Grazer as well the other foster children or even their adult counterparts will be returning to the film.
Something else worth nothing, Warner Bros just the day before announced that BLACK ADAMstarring Dwayne Johnson will be released in December of 2021. We have to wait and see if the end of that film will tie directly into this sequel.
Check out the panel our own resident super villain, Jay Washington moderated with Angel at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention in April of this year.
We’d all known the Dwayne Johnson would be portraying SHAZAM’s main big bad, Black Adam in his own feature film but no one knew when it would arrive. It seemed as if it was the longest of ways away until the successful debut of SHAZAM in theaters and the former WWE Champion let the world know that BLACK ADAMwas going into pre-production.
Now thanks to Johnson we have another update as well as a release date. Johnson posted to his official facebook page.
“The Man in Black ⚡️
Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people.
It all changed for me, when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN.
As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be.
But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be.
I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority.
Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way.
Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true.
I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM.
BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line.
He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way.
Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way.
This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together.
I love the palindrome of the date of December 22, 2021 but now the anticipation for this film goes full steam ahead. It is also interest that he firmly describes Black Adam as a SUPERHERO and not an Anti-hero as formally mentioned.
He also gave somewhat of an update on the solo Black Adam film as he mentions with the development of SHAZAM!.Johnson says “the film had a difficult production as it was initially struggling to tell 2 origin stories (for Black Adam and Shazam!) before the decision was made to save Black Adam for his own solo film”. Johnson also goes one to say that cameras should start rolling in “about a year.“
We are about a month away from the arrival of the youngest future member of the Justice League in SHAZAM! on the big screen. Today we were treated to a new trailer for the upcoming film.
This time we see Billy Batson/SHAZAM! (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) learning more and more about what he can and can’t do with his super abilities along side his foster brother Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer). Along the way we see a more detailed encounter with Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong).
Check out the trailer below. SHAZAM!hits theaters April 5th.
Earlier this week we got a teaser trailer for the DCEU’s youngest superhero in SHAZAM! and at the time of this article another full trailer is expected to drop today. Also today Funko pop released figures for the film and also show members of the Shazam Family. Now it had been known that they would be featured in the upcoming movie, but no one was certain that they’d actually be suiting-up to join Billy Batson (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) in his fight against Dr. Sivana until now.
Funko has released images of three of the POP! tie-in figures that are set to hit shelves very soon, and they give us some idea of how both Darla Dudley (Faithe C. Herman) and Eugene Choi (Ian Chen) will look when they don their superhero costumes in the film.
When the new trailer arrives there is a possibility we may seem them in action along with the Seven Deadly Sins!
The big cheese hits the theaters in April and we got the original trailer back during San Diego Comic Con. Many people became excited to see what the combination of Asher Angel and Zachary Levi would do as the adult-child superhero.
Today we were granted with another teaser for SHAZAM! introduced by Zachary, Asher and Jack Dylan Grazer. We see more of the jokes and the laughs we expect as well as more of Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.
The upcoming DCEU film Shazam! is set to explore the DC Extended Universe’s history and there are rumors around that the Seven Deadly Sins will appear in the movie. Obviously there will need to be someone to play them, hence this new casting announcement.
A new report has come out that claims Smallville alum, John Glover has boarded the BIG CHEESE adaptation in an undisclosed role. The actor is no stranger to playing a bad guy after starring as the diabolical Lionel Luther in the aforementioned The CW series and it’s easy to imagine him lending his voice here.
With Aquaman just a couple weeks away many were wondering if we would possibly be getting a new trailer for the youngest hero SHAZAM this week at the Comic Con Experience Brazil. Well according to the big man himself Zachary Levi on Instagram we will not be getting one this year. It will actually be sometime next year.
However we do have the first theatrical poster which features the big cheese blowing a bubble with bubble gum and on his phone because he’s still a kid ya know. Check it out below and lets us know what you think.
