GOTHAM PD Is Coming To HBO MAX From Matt Reeves

It seems that THE BATMAN and potentially a sequel will not be the only looks into the work of the dark knight that we are getting from director Matt Reeves. News was just released today that Reeves along with Boardwalk Empire creator, Terence Winter, THE BATMAN producer Dylan Clark and Warner Bros television are bringing a GOTHAM PD series to HBO MAX.

The series will be written by Winter is set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. According to Warner Bros. television the series will provide an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham. This marks the first television project for Reeves under his recently announced overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group.

Matt Reeves spoke on the new project saying “This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”

“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. and DC allows us to elaborate and grow fan connections across these powerful brands for years to come.  This is Batman as most audiences have never seen before and we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film,” added Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max, president TNT, TBS, and TruTV.

Many people were hoping that the now cancelled GOTHAM (starring Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon) was going to be focused solely on the Gotham City Police Department. However that focused shifted dramatically as the show went in the direction of showing us a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and him being his journey into crime fighting following the murder of his parents Thomas and Martha “WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME ! ! !” Wayne

THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Gives An Update On The Films Progress During This Pandemic.

While the world is at a stand still due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, many if not all of tv and film productions have shut down.

One in particular many have wondered about is Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN. Reeves who is currently still in London waiting on filming to start back up spoke with DEADLINE.   Reeves offered an update on exactly how much work has been completed on the film thus far.

“We’re not officially editing right now,” he confirmed. “We’ve actually shot a quarter of the movie and I have been pouring through dailies, looking at takes, and what’s to come.”

Before the shutdown production of the film was set to move locations from London to Liverpool. But of course that was impossible one the UK was put into a lockdown. Reeves however does feel certain once things have eased up he will be able to resume filming in the UK.

When asked by the trade whether his version of the caped crusader pays homage to Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One or the Flying Graysons, he understandably responded with a laugh, and stated: “I can’t give you the answers to any of that.”

While Reeves is looking through those dailies, he confirmed that he has no plans to make any major changes to The Batman“It took me two years to work on that story, and it’s a very specific mystery noir that’s been really thought-out by me and my partners.”

One thing he is reconsidering is, “the tone of things. It happens any time you shoot anything. The unexpected — happy accidents and things you didn’t quite expect: That is the lightning in a bottle for something that is alive. I would say that the changes really have to do with ‘Oh, seeing the tone of this’ with these scenes we haven’t done which connect to that part of the storyline.”

“It feels like there might be an opportunity to explore some of that unexpected tone that we found,” the filmmaker continued. “With these movies, you never have enough prep time, because they’re so complex and so enormous in so many ways. It also gives me a moment to think about the larger sequences that have yet to come up and how I want to realize those.”

One of the biggest issues is that it does not seem as if the lockdown going on within the UK will be letting up within the next few months. This may end up putting a very big strain on things. At the end of the day everyone’s health and safety comes first and here’s to hoping that once things get back rolling Reeves and the crew can complete a good filming and from there we wait.

Set Photo Gives Us A Better Look At THE BATMAN In Action

Robert-Pattinson-Batman

Last week thanks to a camera test released by director Matt Reeves we were treated to our first look of Robert Pattinson as the dark knight in THE BATMAN. Although it was draped in red many were able to do a bit of discerning and give their opinions.

Now thanks to a set photo that has come out we have a better look at the full bat suit in action on top of the bat cycle and it is rather amazing.

This looks more tactical then expected as we see Pattinson talking to director Matt Reeves while shooting appears to take place in a cemetery. The anticipation now for just a trailer has elevated a bit and the hype for the June 25, 2021 release has shot up astronomically.

jayme-lawson-the-batman

The casting is ramping up with Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN. Of course we know that Robert Pattinson will be the caped crusader, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and most recently Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth with Colin Farrell as The Penguin. But now another name has entered into the fold, this time it is Juilliard grad Jayme Lawson.

The announcement which was first broken by Collider.com says that Lawson is a relatively unknown to Hollywood given that she does not even yet have an IMDB page. She just recently graduated from the famed Juilliard academy and while there has  played Juliet in Romeo and Juliet as well as the title role in Hamlet, and she has also played Lady Macbeth onstage. She also stars as the Lady in Red in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf, which is now playing at the Public Theater for the first time since its premiere in 1976.

A big noted item is that Lawson’s role is currently being kept under wraps, so it safe to assume that the speculations will being to run rampant. the biggest one is that Lawson may be cast as the daughter of Wright’s Commissioner Gordon, Barbara. Which many comic book fans know that Barbara Gordon eventually becomes the masked superhero known as Batgirl.

It is worth noting that is has been mentioned that the potential Batgirl movie is expected to tie in directly with THE BATMAN so here may be the official connection.

Stay tuned to the resident super villain, Jay Washington and The Mad Titan Podcast as more news on this as it comes in.

THE BATMAN is set to hit theaters June 25, 2021

Jonah Hill No Longer In Talks To Join THE BATMAN

Jonah Hill

The world of comic book fandom went gaga when it was announced the Academy Award nominee, Jonah Hill was in talks to board Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN in an undisclosed villain role. The rumor mill began to circulate like crazy as to which member of the caped crusaders Rogue’s Gallery he would be portraying. The top two being The Riddler or The Penguin.

Well not all of that anticipation has to be quenched as it is being reported by Deadline that Hill is no longer in talks to join the film in any capacity. This is sad but hopefully Hill’s next role will still be one that has audiences clamoring.

Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN is steadily taking shape with an extremely solid cast. With Robert Pattinson taking on the role of a young caped crusader, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner and Jonah Hill currently in talks to play a villain.  Now we know who will be Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, it is PRETTY LITTLE LIARS star, Zoë Kravitz.

Kravitz now adds her name to the of extraprdinary women who have snapped the whip as Selina Kyle.  Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway in the film world. On the Gotham TV series, Kyle was played by Cameron Bicondova. Halle Berry also portrayed a version of Catwoman as did Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt in the BATMAN 1960’s series.

Kravitz’s leant her voice to THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE in which she played…yes, Catwoman.

THE BATMAN is set to hit theaters June 25, 2021.

WESTWORLD’s Jeffrey Wright May Become THE BATMAN’s Commissioner Gordon

jeffrey_wright-getty-h_2019_

If you want to have someone who will be the police liaison and ally if you would to Robert Pattinson’s dark knight in THE BATMAN this here is a wonderful choice.

Jeffrey Wright (WESTWORLD) is in negotiations to join Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN as Jim Gordon.  At the time of this article being written nothing is official. The reason the title of Commissioner was not used with Gordon’s name is because it is not known yet what phase of his career will we see Gordon in. We know that the film will center around a younger Dark Knight but that does not give the stage of Gordon’s police career whether he is the Commissioner or if he is still a detective.

THE BATMAN is set to arrive in theaters on June 25, 2021

Jonah Hill In Talks To Play A Villain in THE BATMAN

mid90s_jonah-hill_0047.jpg

This is an interesting development into the casting for Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN. It is being reported that Jonah Hill is in talks to join the noir detective film starring Robert Pattinson.

Now nothing is set in stone as of now but what’s makes this an even more intriguing development is that Hill is potentially set to portray a villain in the caped crusader flick. There are reportedly set to be at least 6 villains in the film. So there could be a number of rogues he could play. For this writer, The Penguin seems like the best role to drop the actor/director into.

THE BATMAN is set for a June 25, 2021, release.

Robert Pattinson Is THE BATMAN

Robert-Pattinson-Batman

It’s been a long time and much wondering as to what was happening but now we officially know who will be the next to put on the cape and cowl and take up the mantle of Batman.

That man is Robert Pattinson. Pattinson who’s name had been thrown in the rumor mill of potential younger Bruce Wayne’s for Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN is now said to be the man according to Variety.

Pattinson gained notoriety as a heartthrob in the Twilight film series and this year alone has several projects to be released.

Production on The Batman is said to begin either late this year or early 2020 with the film’s release date set for June 25, 2021.
