BLACK WIDOW Has A New Release Date And It Shakes Up The MCU Movie Slate

Of the course the world as we know it has changed. Thanos’ snapped first got rid of then brought back half the uni…..oh that’s not what we’re talking about. Oh yeah due to the global pandemic caused by COVID-19 aka THE RONA. The movie release slate for 2020 has been drastically changed.

Many hoped at one point that Marvel Studios’ BLACK WIDOW would still be able to keep its original theatrical release date of May 1, 2020 even if that meant a straight to Disney Plus release. Well not only did the date get pushed back but there also will be no straight to Disney Plus release.

Well today Disney revealed an updated release schedule for the Scarlett Johannson led movie. It also shifts the rest of the upcoming MCU theatrical release slate.

BLACK WIDOW now will take THE ETERNALS release date of November 6, 2020 and THE ETERNALS now shifts to February 12, 2021. This also moves around SHANG-CHI and THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS to May 7, 2021 as well as DOCTOR STRANGE INTO THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS on November 5, 2021.

This update slate also seemingly locks in 2022 as well for Marvel Studios, THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER goes to February 18, 2022, BLACK PANTHER 2, May 8, 2022 and CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 which originally did not have a release date is now set for a July 8, 2022 release.

Of course with the changes in these films theatrically you can bet your bottom dollar that the slate for the MCU Disney Plus series will also be altered given that they all now directly connecting to the films in a chronological order.

Marvel Studios THE ETERNALS Star Reveals Which Will Be The Their First Gay Superhero

Since it was announced that in the upcoming Marvel Studios THE ETERNALS one of the immortal heroes would be the studios first openly gay superhero many people were wondering which star would fill that void. Now we have an answer to that quandry.

Thanks to Haaz Sleiman, we now know that it is indeed Phastos played by Bryan Tyree Henry. It is not known the name of Sleiman’s  character, but we do know that he’ll be Phastos’ husband.

NewNowNext spoke with Sleiman, and asked if we can expect a gay kiss in the movie and he confirmed that will indeed be happening. “Oh yeah, absolutely, and it’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” he says. “Everyone cried on set. For me it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be.” He goes on to say “Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point,” “We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on the human part.”

Marvel Studios has gone on record saying that they wanted their casts and stories to be more diverse and inclusive. This includes director Joe Russo as a gay man rebounding with his life after the Thanos snap, while speaking in a meeting conducted by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in AVENGERS ENDGAME. It will be interesting to see if the studio faces any backlash with the characters in the superhero flick.

THE ETERNALS hit theaters on November 6, 2020.

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige Gives Details On Openly Gay Hero

Over the past couple of  years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made some major changes when it comes to its level of representation in its film. This is due to in part the blockbuster successes of BLACK PANTHER and CAPTAIN MARVEL and even the upcoming SHANG CHI and the recently announced Ms. Marvel Disney plus series in the works,he MCU continues to grow more and more diverse.

This even goes into one of the studios upcoming projects THE ETERNALS, that announced it would feature both the studios and the MCU’s first openly gay hero. Now the identity of that character has yet to be disclosed but Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige has shared some new details on the hero.

While speaking to Good Morning America during the recent D23 Expo in Anaheim.“He’s married, he’s got a family. And that is just part of who he is.”

 

Of course Feige did not say which specific member of THE ETERNALS, would be the bero  but it does confirm previous reports that the character is male. Nonetheless, Feige’s statement makes it clear that the hero’s sexuality won’t be hidden,

We Know Who Gemma Chan Will Be In THE ETERNALS

When Gemma Chan was announced as a cast member of Marvel Studios  THE ETERNALS many were wondering if the CRAZY RICH ASIANS star was reprising her CAPTAIN MARVEL role of Minn-Erva or if it would be a completely different character. Now we know that not only is it a different role but is the starring role.

Chan will be playing the character of Sersi as announced during the Marvel portion on the D23 stage. She took to twitter to express her gratitude and excitement.

We also were treated to seeing the characters in their costumes through concept art.

Kit Harrington Is Officially Going ETERNAL

We recently reported that former GAME OF THRONES star, Kit Harrington was set to join a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but is was currently unknown which one. Now thanks to the D23 Expo we know which film that will be.

Harrington will be joining a former GAME OF THRONES co-star, Richard Madden in Marvel Studios THE ETERNALS.

Harington will play non-Eternal Dane Whitman in the pic, which now marks Harington’s next film. THE ETERNALS hits theaters  November 6, 2020 release date.

Gemma Chan In Talks To Join THE ETERNALS

Even after the blockbuster cast announcement we were given about Marvel Studios THE ETERNALS  at San Diego Comic Con is seems as if that roster is still expanding. “Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan is in talks to join THE ETERNALS this is according to Variety.

Chan would join previously announced cast members Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani. Chan is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Unverse, earlier this year she portrayed Minn-Erva in CAPTAIN MARVEL with Brie Larson and Jude Law. Its unknown if she will be playing the same role in THE ETERNALS.

Variety’s sources are saying that Chan’s part in THE ETERNALS would be a completely different role, which if true, would mark one of the first times a star will have played two different characters in the same cinematic universe.

People have to separate the actors that were in the Marvel Netflix series’ (i.e Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali, etc) as they are now being considered connected yet separated. 

Marvel has not commented as of this posting.

STRANGER THINGS Star Heading To Become ETERNAL

Millie Bobby Brown to Star in Marvel's The Eternals Movie

Coming after a streaming viewer record breaking  debut weekend of season 3 of STRANGER THINGS on Netflix, one of its stars is seemingly headed next into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) has joined the cast of Marvel’s The Eternals, Variety reports. The actress will join the previously announced cast of Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden, Ma Dong-Seok and Salma Hayek. Details on Brown’s character have not yet been revealed.

Marvel is expected to make some major announcements during its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 20th from 5:15pm-6:45pm. This will more than likely be one of them along with a full reveal of any other major cast members.

THE ETERNALS  is set to begin production later this year and will be directed by Chloe Zhoa.

Marvel’s THE ETERNALS Add Salma Hayek

With Marvel Studios and the MCU heading into Phase 4, there are no signs of falling off or slowing down and this latest casting jist adds on to the list of reasons why.

It is being reported that FROM DUSK TIL DAWN actress, Salma Hayek is set to join the cast of Marvel Studios THE ETERNALS. It us being reported is that Hayek is in negotiations to join Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani in the Marvel Studios cosmic adventure, which will be directed by Chloe Zhao.

The character Hayek will play is being kept under wraps, but of course as more information becomes available it will be here.  Production is set to commence later this year and we may get more announcements at this years San Diego Comic-Con.
